Dear friends,
I´d like to know the differences between DVD-R and DVD+R and the regions where each one is used...
Thanks...

Hello,
Read this:

It's on the left of the page. Excellent starter info.

the difference are few. dvd-r holds the tiniest bit more that +, but thats like 100meg, so not much of a selling point. both claim to be more compatible than the other. dvd+r apparently has some extra features when using a stand-alone recorder, things like finalising and menus. but id say that would be determined by the recorder and not the disc format. basically there isnt much difference. price is no longer an issue. the biggest difference is dual layer discs, which gives u 8.5GB opposed to 4.7 and only the + format has at the moment. however - is coming out with a dual layer format soon. so basically it comes down to personal preference. and if u mean dvd zone/ regions, then neither have any regions, that's something the dvd producers include on commercial discs

dvd-r/w holds about 6 MB more than dvd+r/w.....not 100MB. www.videohelp.com/dvd#dvdsizes

DVD +R is better than -R because + = plus and we all know that a plus is better than a negative or a minus, coz that means to take away and I dont want my disc being taken away.

I think you'll find DVD-R is actually "DVD DASH R".
Didn't really answer the question. I use DVD-R for video footage and DVD+R for data backup (system backup). -

You dont know me very well do ye. All joking aside, this question comes up so often its obvious the poster didnt do his/her homework. If God is all powerful, could he make a boulder so big that even he himself could not lift? And if God is all powerful, cant he lift anything? And if he could lift this boulder, then he obviously could not make a boulder so big that he couldnt lift, and if he is all powerful why couldnt he make this boulder, and ............... -

PLEASE NOT THIS QUESTION AGAIN and yes, I am shouting!
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
Enough of this!!
I am going to start my own company and develop my own format...
DVD LN(R)
Yes, fellow DVD enthusiasts, it's DVD "Natural Log" R. Unlike our DVD "-" or "+" compatriots, the new "natural log" version is soft and gentle like a mild laxative and will gradually increase in popularity unlike those other nasty, explosively popular formats that are messy and create nothing but these pointless arguments.
And you know what? It's certified by mathematicians the world over who will insist that, despite its slow increase, it will gradually move towards infinite bliss.
Until then, you will find "+" proponents and "-" proponents and people like me, who frankly don't care because either format works great on my Sony DVD player."What? Huh?!? WHAT will come out no more?!?" Jack Burton -- BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA
