  1. ok, i own a lite-on 411s. been using fujifilm dvd-r media (TYG02).

after about 40 backups burned on firmwares FS0H, FS0J, FS0K, burned at 4x, none of them have perfect playback on my apex ad-703. they skip every 20 seconds.

now i've found firmware FS0F, but i looked into the media codes FS0F supported, and TYG02 dvd-rs are not recognized. so dvddecryptor says only 1x write speed is supported.

ANY backup burned with firmware FS0F (only 1x burn speed is available), it plays perfect on my apex.

now, is it the burn speed that satisfies my apex? or the firmware?

btw, on firmwares FS0H, FS0J, and FS0K, ive tried 2x and 4x (neither would let me burn at 1x), and they still skip

  2. Maybe both. No offense, but the LDW-411s is a POS. Don't take that the wrong way, because I have an LDW-401s (POS). The way I see it, you have four options:
    1) Burn your TYG02 @1x
    2) Buy some DVD+R
    3) Buy a new writer ($$$media vs. $$$writer)
    4) Mod your burner's firmware with Omnipatcher so you can try different write strategies

DEH707 - I have the same unit and have been successful with it. I am running FS0F, and I am able to burn at 4x using RICOHJPNR01 DVD+R discs . I haven't had a coaster yet. I have been able to buy RICOHJPNR01's under the Memorex and TDK brand name. I always run a new purchase thru DVD Identifier to make sure I get RICOHJPNR01. If they are an inferior brand, I return them. Good luck!

  4. Buffotoad, 411, and most liteons seem to prefer +r media a little more. That's probably part of the reason for your success. The media he is using is -r, and is generally considered some of the best media (TY). I'm sorry that the media doesn't seem to be working well for you.

I too own the 411S and have NEVER had any problems with burning. I strictly use Samsung DVD+R media (YUDEN001) and they work perfectly. No skips, no stutters. Perfect all the way through. Not sure which firmware. I will check tonight and report back.

I think the 411S is a great burner.

deh707 has 40 coasters that say otherwise.

The genral consensus for this burner seems to +R good, -R bad. If deh707's player requires -R, then a new burner would appear to be in order. If it plays +R, then a change of media is mandated.

How much TYG02 do you have stockpiled? If you don't have much left, just start using DVD+R (YUDEN001 & RICOHJPNR01 are excellent choices). There's a good chance your problems will go away. However, if you've got a bunch of TYG02 left, it might be worthwile to just buy a new writer. That's top notch media, and it's a shame to be limited to burning it @ 1x, new writers being as cheap as they are. Of course, you can always mod the firmware. It's a roll of the dice: you may find a write strategy that allows you to burn TYG02 successfully, or you might just add to your coaster collection. You'll have to make that determination.

What other software are you using to back up your dvds? DVDSHRINK? DVD DECRYPTER? Did you do the zebra mod to your 411s drive? In my opinion using the zebra mod to make the drive a 811s is better when using DVD-R media. If you checkout the Liteon forum the consenus is to use the zebra mod for the 411 drive and to use firmware FS0F for DVD-R media.

  10. oh, ive used tdk dvd+r (RICOHJPNR01). and here's the funny thing...

after recording, 2 out of every 3 discs have trouble loading the dvd+r (with or without menus) on my apex. but without menus, they all play fine.

    now why does that happen?

e.g. bad santa, passion of the christ, and man on fire backups on dvd+r play fine on my apex. but backups on dvd+r of kill bill vol 2, mission impossible, and final destination 2 dont even start to play.

    now that's very odd.

btw, i burn all my tdk RICOHJPNR01 dvd+r with the DVD-ROM bitsetting

  11. Have you tested your discs on any other DVD player besides the APEX?

  12. yep, xbox, ps2, cyberhome standalone, akai dvd/vhs/tv combo, laptop dvd-rom drive, the lite-on 411s drive itself, all play perfect.

i guess it's time to replace the apex ad-703?

i couldn't disagree more! I have used the 411s FSOF for a year now and made 70+ backups on Ritek G04 DVD-R that play flawlessly in my Apex 1110W, Memorex MVD2022, and Philips 642. I burn them all at 4x.

I suggest trying the Riteks, they are cheaper all the time.
