  1. Does one exist? I've tried looking in the search engine but couldn't find one.

If a reasonably priced one doesn't exist I was going to get one without the conversion capabilities for around $300. Can anyone recommend a good dvd recorder? Might there be better models to choose from at better prices down the road in say six months time?

On the input or output. Actually I can't help with either but if you specify which you mean you might get more helpful replies

    Just a thought

The ability to play both formats but a video converter that will convert on the fly PAL into NTSC to play on standard US tv.

That sucks. There are several players that'll do including the Philips 642 which I may have to get in addition now. Does anyone know if there are any plans to release a multisystem recorder in the future?

  6. Best bet is probably to get a multi-system TV. Not sure how easy that is in the USA, but most TV's sold in Europe are multi-system even if they do not advertise the fact.

They do exist but we have a large screen projection tv which can't be replaced. The $60 additional PAL playing dvd player is a much better option. Ok then, two units it is then. Cheers for the help.

Wait a minute...a Liteon DVD Recorder can convert an OUTGOING signal from one format to the other can't it?
It just cant RECORD an NTSC signal in PAL...or vise versa.
    That is what I've read.

PAL disc on NTSC system can be NTSC50 out
Will play, but not true NTSC

NTSC disc on PAL system can be PAL60 out
Will play, but not true PAL

If this is all you need, grab a Cyberhome player. The LiteOn DVD recorder is quite honestly the VERY BEST player I've ever used for playing PAL on NTSC tv.

**edit: I had my PAL60 and NTSC50 in the wrong places. Fixed now. Same thought process, same meaning. This is why I hate tech terms.

  10. Doesn't the JVC DR-M10S output NTSC for PAL discs? I think someone tried this but not 100% sure.

My JVC player does convert PAL discs to true NTSC output.

Yes, it does. I think it is part of LSI chip function. But you have to take care of regional code first.
