Can someone explain why I got lot of dropped frames with MainConcept MPEG Encoder 1.4.2 and not a single one capturing with Main Actor 5.2.9?
I capture to full PAL DVD mpeg2 and use the presets for both sw, except for bitrate where I use min 2000, average 6000 and max 8000.
P4 at 1.7 Ghz HDD 7200 rpm 512 MB ram.
With Main Actor the processor usage is 90 to 100% and I have other programs active in the tray field, but not a single dropped frame.

Mainconcept 1.4.2 is very CPU demending
For a full framesize PAL capture, even 2.4Ghz might not be enough!
If you disable some options it has, you might succeed better results. Also try CBR and if you wish lower framesizes to output (704 x 576 for example, or even 352 x 576)
I'm able to capture realtime mpeg 2 with a duron 1200 using 352 x 576 if that helps, but I have disable everything for succeed it!La Linea by Osvaldo Cavandoli

OK, thanks, but it still not explains why Main Actor not drops a single frame with the same visual quality of the resulting clip.

Yes! you are right, same to me, I'm finding better perfomance capping with MainActor 5.2.9 than MainConcept MPEG encoder 1.4.2.
I can capture to MPEG2 with most of the presets and at higher framesizes (720 x 480) without getting dropped frames.
Definitely good results capturing realtime NTSC MPEG2 with MainActor 5.2.9.

I'm able to capture at 768 x 576 and encode realtime to 352 x 576 with a duron 1200 and mainconcept 1.4.2 ...
