  1. Hi everyone. I'm wondering if anyone else has had recent problems with the Memorex DVD+RW disks. I have had my current computer for about 2 1/2 years (its a Dell) and I bought it with the Philips dvd burner. Back then, dvd burners were just coming out and so my burner only burns +RW media. The only brand you could readily find back then was Memorex. So that's the brand I started with and have always used. I have a Philips DVD701, a Sony DVP-S530D and a Samsung DVD-HD931. All of the older Memorex disks play in all 3 players. However, the last 2 boxes I bought only play in the Sony and Philips, not the Samsung. I rip my dvds with DVD Decrypter, use Ifoedit to split the disk or keep just the movie (I never transcode), use Imgtool to make an image file, and DVD Decypter to burn that file. I took a recent image and burned it on a new disk, and took an old disk and burned over it with the same image. Guess what? The new disk wouldn't play in the Samsung but the old one did! Therefore, I know I did everything correct as far as ripping, authoring, and burning. Since all the new disks play in the Sony and Philips players, I guess for some reason the Samsung has gotten tempormental with the newest Memorex disks. Any suggestions anyone has as far as different media to use, or even a reason why this might be happening is surely welcomed.

  2. It's probably the media. My guess is the newer Memorex is now made by CMC (crap) while the older Memorex was made by RicohJpn (good).

  3. I bought a pack of Memorex 3 +Rs/2 +RWs. One of the +Rs became a coaster. The RW appeared to burn fine, but when played it the DVD player it kept stopping. This brand really sucks.
This plan is so bad, it must be one of ours.

I used many of the older Memorex DVD-RW disks (Ritek 004V11)
and had no problems. Ever since I purchased the newer ones marked as 2X (TDK 502sakuM3) I have not been able to burn them at all.
Thank Memorex for allowing customers to call, complain, and
receive new ones without even showing any proof of purchase.

  5. Thanks everyone for your posts. Can you tell me how I can tell who made my Memorex disks though? All I see is where it says made in Taiwan, but all of them say that, both the old and the new ones.

Look in the sticky's...a program called dvd identifier can be used to read the media codes off of the media.

That being said, I was happy using the 4x memorex dvd-r's that were Ritek G04 media.

Just purchased a memorex 50pk of the 8x +r, and the media code is CMC, guess I won't be buying them again.

I bought a spindle of 50 -R 4x, nothing but problems. Ran Nero speed test, all of the ones I tested had an uncorrectable error. I made a second attempt with Memorex to try and refund my money. So far no response, my guess is either they will ignore me or send me replacements, so I will have more bad DVDs. Anyway I no longer purchase Memorex.

i bought them in UK, 5 in 1pack,
3 of them have error reading now, i use them not more than 50 times (erase & re-write).
DVD Identifier & DVDInfoPro both show unknown media info, no manufacture name no media Code/ID.
    might be crap production.
