New members don't have to wait for new releases during their trial period. I know that during my first month I never had to wait for a movie and all my friends were amazed. Afterwards, I started seeing short wait and long wait for new releases. I got so fed up once waiting for 4 new releases that I wrote a 'hate' mail to their customer service (suggestion) center. They never responded but my service did get better. Now, they're using their delay tactics. I'm also beginning to think that it might be illegal to tell us a day late that they received our returns. At least it's unethical. Anyways, I cancel Monday once my movies are returned.
BTW: I'm in Seattle -

I just ordered my first DVD from Netflix about 30 minutes ago.
I checked the mailbox five minutes after I ordered and the DVD wasn't there. I'm cancelling my membership. Their service sucks, and they take too long to ship the stuff to me.
Piss on Netflix. -

I hear all of the conspiracy theories but my experience with Netflix has been very good. I think one of the issues is the efficiency of the Post Office with respect to your location and the nearest Netflix location. I am fortunate to live near their main office location. The mail from my Post Office is sorted by the same Post Office that Netflix uses. As a result, I get movies very quickly. For example, if I mail a return movie on Moday, they almost always receive it on Tuesday and the next movie in my queue goes out the same day and I receive it on Wednesday. So I think the Postal Service has a lot to do with an individual's experience. If the Postal serrvice is not as efficient in your case, the turn around time suffers.

Some more financial info on this Topic. I found it interesting and fairly relevant

An interesting bit from the article:
Is cancellation the next step for people who aren't shipping movies back and forth regularly? And was the sudden amortization shift just accounting hocus-pocus?
"We were troubled by the announcement," says Alden Mahabir, an analyst with Vintage Research who has a "sell" rating on the stock. "We believe the earnings increase was manufactured, and it appears the company arbitrarily classified what was an old and new movie." When Netflix announces third-quarter earnings on Thursday, smart investors will be listening to the question-and-answer portion of the conference call for more guidance on the company's fundamentals.drink up....the world's about to end -
Well, they don't really ship on saturday usually. They won't on Sunday either. So, kind of limits ship days.
But the price is going to drop to $17.99 a month Nov 1st, if it hasn't already. BB also dropped prices. It's kind of funny to me cause amazon hasn't even annouced its prices. -
BB has yet to lower its prices. I seems bad policy to announce your lowering prices and then wait a month.

Advance notice is bad policy? How would you feel if they were increasing prices and didn't give advance notice?
