    Hi!
I need little help.I captured my 3 Dv tapes with WinDV to harddrive after that used TMPGENC to encoded so I have .mp2 and .m2v files.
Now what I need is to edit/cut and maybe split in one file.
Can you recomend me how to do it??

    Thanks

In future you would be better off doing the editing before converting to MPEG, Virtualdub is ideal. I've never used this but it should work - using TMPGenc click file>MPEG tools and select multiplex and mux your mp2 and m2v files. Then use the merge and cut function to edit.

mpegvcr from womble is great for editing mpeg files. There is a guide on how to use it on http://www.digitalfaq.com/. You can download a fully functional trial copy thats good for about 30 days to see if you like it. Sometimes using the tmpgenc method gave me aucio video sync issues but I have never had a/v sync issues with mpegvcr.

You definitely want to do all your editing before mpg conversion.

If I may ask, is that because that way you'll be able to compress less (because you have less material to encode?) or is it because there's a risk of successive decode/encode (for fade-in/out etc)?

If your editing comprises simple cuts and joins, and you have an application that will allow you to do this accurate to the frame, then you may not see any loss, as there may not be a need to reencode very mcuh if at all (there will probably be some reencoding to make sure GOPs remain correct)

If you want to use a more powerful editor that does not give you frame accurate edits, or want to add overlays, fades and other effects, the mpeg-2 is not the best medium to work in.

But if you download mpegvcr you can edit your already encoded mpeg and you will get frame accurate cuts with no reencoding and no a/v sync issues.

Anybody having problems with the digitalfaq.com site listed above?

I get a error message like

You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this directory or page from the Internet address of your Web browser.

HTTP 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address rejected
    Internet Information Services

And I'm wondering if it is blacklisting at their end or my end?

I'm on Verizon DSL right now and their site could be blacklisting me, Never neem their of course, or maybe error message isn't right and it has been blocked by Spybots blocking or Spyware Blaster's blocking action.

So just curious, as I'm always looking for new forums to kill those slow moments here at work.

    Thanks

TMPGEnc MPEG Editor is also frame accurate, only re-encodes necessary frames around the edit point to maintain GOP structure. It does call home periodically to renew the license so internet connection is needed. I've used it for a couple of projects with good success.

    maybe it doesn't like XP-SP2?

Looking again I see I missed the extra . (DOT), in http://www.digitalfaq.com./ in the original link. I'm not sure what that does in HTML of course.

    OH Well, Thanks a lot.

That dot in the original link of my first post was just the ending period of my sentence. I think that was what messed up the link in the first place. The period got added to the link when it shouldn't have.
