Halitosis Detecting Phone?

SOme of you may have already seen or heard of this. I think something like this would be going off like crazy if you live near a dump or in Los Angeles.

BERLIN - A German telecommunications company said on Tuesday it is developing the first mobile phone that will alert users when their breath is bad or if they are giving off offensive smells.

The phone will use a tiny chip measuring less than one millimeter to detect unpleasant odors, a spokeswoman for Siemens Mobile said. A research team in the southern city of Munich is developing the device using new sensor technology.

“It examines the air in the immediate vicinity for anything from bad breath and alcohol to atmospheric gas levels,” the spokeswoman said. “Some people take smelling good rather seriously.”

Apparently having their bodies giving off unpleasant odors is so commonplace, so offensive, and so sudden, Germans need an electronic device to tell them that "brushing your teeth and bathing daily is a good thing" ...and they're past the grace period. Perhaps they're reluctant to correct it because they don't want to humiliate the French again. It's hapeened soooo often

This was my gratuitous potshot at europeans <evil laugh>. Certain ....ermm ....members here (not OT regulars) have a decidedly anti-American bias, so every now and then I like to get in a little jab ...even the score a little.

It's all in good fun and not intended to hurt feelings. That's why I always use smileys when I joke (unless I know the person really well and they're not needed). When I don't use them it's because either I made a horrible pun, or it's someone I'm teasing and they know me well enough to know I'm kidding.

I heard about the compulsory chip built into american phones, they won't turn on unless the owner is obesse. stops those damn immigrants clogging up the cellular networks.
