  1. Which players play DVD-Rs best? I swap with other people all the time and get discs that won't play sometimes. The last time 3 of them wouldn't play in either of my Panasonics or my Sony. When I told the person I got them from they didn't work she tried the ones they were copied from and they wouldn't play in a JVC but would in 2 Apex players. Are the cheap DVD players better at playing DVD-R discs? It's hard to believe that something that won't play in 2 Panasonics, a Sony and a JVC will play in Apex. Doesn't say much for the name brands. I've never bought cheap electronics, but I'm beginning to doubt if paying more actually gets more these days.

I think you are finding out the "The Big Guys" are not as forgiving in playing DVDR's than the cheapo brands. However....I've traded DVD's for the past several years and have had only 1 person tell me that one of my DVD's would not play on their machine. I sent her a +R instead of a -R and everything turned out OK.
My first DVD's were from a DVD Recorder....and now my DVD's that I trade are from my computer burner. I've seen no difference in reliability during the transition.

  3. You must have a better burner or master discs than the people I've traded with lately. Out of 47 discs, 5 of them don't work in any player I have.

    Hello,

You could do a search HERE Found on the left of the screen <----

There are countless reviews by members on dozens of players. Very helpful. It also lists what media the players work with.

    Yoda,
That is GREAT when buying a DVD Player....but it still does not explain me never knowing what DVD player "the other guy" has....and my discs working 99% of the time.
I've seen SO many stories like samijubal's and I almost feel guilty in a way...I've almost never had a problem with any of my DVD's.
Like I said...the one problem I had WAS proven by the compatibility list of DVD players on this web site. I sent a woman a -R and her machine would not play them....I sent a +R and all was well.
My point is...I NEVER ask what make and model DVD player someone has and my DVD's still work damn near perfectly.
I wonder about this alot...I just don't worry about it anymore. And if I change DVD burners....will my success rate change? What is it about my programs, computer, burner or process that make my discs so much better than alot of other peoples discs?
If you ask me...a -R burned in a computer is your best bet for compatibility....am I wrong?
    Know what I mean Vern?....

    Hello,

-r is the best choice right now apparently. It's also fate I guess. So many combinations of procedures/equipment who knows where you mess up??? You just give it your best shot and hope for the best (and save the ORIGINAL file!)

  8. I took the discs to an electronics store and tried them in the JVC the guy there recommended and a $35 cheapo, they played in both. Maybe the people you are sending them to hech54 have the cheap DVD players. I got a JVC from e-bay for $39, hopefully they will play in it too.
