As some of you may know, I run a couple English schools in Japan. We also have other English services. However, I was approached the other day by a man wanting our school to create and English slogan that would make sense for his company. We offered to translate the slogan he already had, but it didn't come out to well (Culture and language don't always translate well). Anyway, he asked me if I would be willing to come up with some ideas so that he could pick from them. I have some creative teachers who would definitely do a good job...but how much would you charge for that!?

Anyone else offer the same service?, can you base your prices on theres?
Check out my thread entitled "holiday" and recommend me a kickass hotel in Tokyo mate. -
Depends on how far away this slogan will be heard.
If local I'd charge him ~$200 for it, depending on how long you work on it and how many times to have to fine tune it.
If national / wordwide I'd charge him much more. -
It's basically advertising. I'd call an advertising agency or similar and just ask them if they could give you a roundabout quote. Tell them you have a business, etc, etc, they don't know the difference.

Post afew of the proposed slogans here and maybe we can come up with a few more (appropriately testeless) ones for you.
-
So you could charge him $300 or so and he's getting a hell of a deal and you are stealing 300 bucks from him.
-
yeah...I thought maybe I would throw a couple on here. I meet up with the guy on Thursday for details...it's Wednesday morning 3am now...still on videohelp.com...why...can't...I ...pull....away!!???

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend? -
How much would a copyright of the slogan cost? multiply that by 3 or 4 times unless you feel that more effort was put into creating it.
-
Here ya go:
"I paid Beavereater a thousand dollars, and all I got was this lousy slogan."
$1000.00, pleae. Will that be cash, check, or charge?Hello. -
I would still start cheap and who knows maybe in his business circles your name gets dropped, a few of friends want you to do somethings for them, you charge them a little more but still cheap...hell, who knows it may spin into a little side business for you.

first rule of business...he who speaks first loses...

So true. I saw an oriental translation of a
skid steer loader. It translated to a
slippery beef lift. LMAO.
Figuring out what to charge for some services can
be harder than the actual service itself.
I do landscape design. I am often told to let myself
go and design away. Of course, after the fact, the
client want their own input and my ideas go out the
window. I just charge by the hour, the more changes, the bigger the bill.
Best of luck

They have so many fucked up slogans...check out www.engrish.com for some funny ones. This is why he came to me. I figure I would start low. Although I am not 100 percent...I think his company is a small business, with not a lot to spend. He isn't gonna know the difference between something good and bad anyway. BUT...if it comes out good, more business I guess.

It's not expensive to copyright a slogan. You make it and sell the copyright to the person for about 3-4 times your cost to cover effort and time. If you feel you spent a lot of time and effort into it, you can charge a little more, but it's still incredibly cheap compared to what is normally charged for something like that. If it ends up as a side business and your name becomes more popular, you use the law of supply and demand. Gradually increase the cost and see how many people continue to come to you. as time goes by and you are considered a great slogan writer, then you can pretty much charge what you want. But in the beginning, it's a great way to charge and make a small profit for something simple.

Japanese get their L's and R's mixed VERY easily...so I sometimes need to use the Toiret, or eat in the dining loom, or play Loom3 (that last one I haven't seen...) I've taken some pretty good pictures of BAD Engrish!! Over a vending machine selling soda it said "STOP...and reflesh yourself"
