I was looking around at newegg.com and came across this monitor and it looks like a good deal, newegg usually does have good deals but this just seemed a little to cheap.

  3. here's why:
    Native Resolution: 1280x1024 (SXGA)

    19" should be 1600x1280

    Response time is slow too
    Response Time: 25ms

    thayne,

Is there really that much of a quality difference between those 2 resolutions? If it was only going to be used for regular everyday tasks and watching movies, not gamming. Would it not be a good choice for a monitor used for those purposes considering the price?

  5. Yeah there is. I'd get a 17" if you want 1280x1024 On a 19" it would look silly. Watching moving could be a problem with the response time, you'll see diagnal slices down the screen in fast motion scenes

    General rule is:

    15" LCD 1024x768
    17" LCD 1280x1024
    19-20" LCD 1600x1280

21" and above go higher and cost a fortune

I'd look for a response time of 16ms or less for movies watching

I was just checking out the Native Resolution on some of the other more expensive brand name lcd monitors and there is not a single one with a native resolution of 1600x1280.

This is where I was checking some of the other monitors.

  7. for 19"??? Weak! Maybe I was thinking 21"

I'd go look at one in a store first to see if it looks okay to you. to me 1280x1024 is perfect for a 17" LCD.

You still prolly want a faster refresh time though

I just bought a cheap monitor from newegg, CTX brand 17" CRT. The damn thing broke two months later. It was too late to get a replacement from newegg and it would cost me more in shipping to get it fixed under the manufacturer's warranty, than to buy a new monitor.

I usually avoid the deals that are too good to be true, because of what happens when deals are too good to be true.

Housmate has a 19" 1280x1024, looks sweet to me. i'm used to 1024x768 on a 17", so it's pretty similar.

I just got a 19" 1920x1440. Replaced a 17" plasma that I'm giving to my wife's brother. I just built a new unit for him and had the extra monitor.
