I use wintv pvr 250, it comes with a scheduler, and you can use titantv.com to click to schedule a recording. Works for me. but the downside is you can only record to mpeg1 or mpeg2

I suggest reading the user reviews in this section -

The thing that made me choose PVR250 is the hardware mpeg encoder. You can use the computer to anything while encoding - it takes no system resources at all. With Womble mpeg VCR, you can edit the mpeg just as easily as any AVI.

their sugestions are good. BUT i highly recomend you look at ATI AIW cards.. i have the 8500 128 meg version.. and it can record mpeg 1/2/4 and others. it has come along way in the sw and driver area.. and its a good gaming card too if you get the right one. it also does hardware based capture but only assisted. but with your computer specs youll have no issue with driped frames etc if set up correctly.

Ati all in wonder radeon cards are good...even if they are a major pain to install the software correctly! You can cap in avi, mpeg 1 & 2 . Works great for TV capturing. If you want to capture your commercial video tapes you will need a macrovision hack and possibly a TBC (time based corrector). I use my ati card solely for capturing from satelite. You can pick one up used on ebay for around $40.00 (older cards).

The NTSC users love the ATI cards. There is only a macrovision problem with them, which there are ways to bypass.
Also, people reports that ATI cards are very sensitive regarding VHS tapes, but there are many well known ways to solve anything that pop ups.
Hardware realtime mpeg 2 capture cards, are good for slower systems.
In your case, there are also software solutions to succeed great results (mainconcept encoder 1.4.2 for example). I believe software solutions are more flexible, but on the other hand the hardware solutions work best now.
Great picture can be produced with capture cards based on the latest conexant 10bit chips, or that philips 9bit one. Most existing software are compatible with them.La Linea by Osvaldo Cavandoli
