  1. I've made a DVD with DVD-lab and the burning process works excellent, but when I play the DVD in my standalone DVD player it is not possible to use fast forward or to jump forward into next chapter. When I try to, only the sound goes forward as it should and the image freezes! But when I play it in my DVD-player at my computer, it works fine!

I've done exactly the same on another computer and the DVD I made there works great in my DVD player.

I've tried both DVD+R and DVD-R with the same result.

The difference from the other computer is the DVD-burner and the manufactor of the discs!

    Does anyone know why?

    Hello,

First of all try the test with the SAME disc type. That would be the first culprit. If the same blank disc brand works well on both computers then buy better media. Another option is to upgrade the firmware on the computer that is having difficulties.

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. I've upgraded the firmwire without any better result. I've tried 2 different discs without any difference result.

    Anyone?

Can there be a problem with the dvd-burner? (Lite-On)

Or can it be a problem with the videfile? In DVD-lab it actually says that the file is 00:00:00, but I've experienced that it sometimes does that without any obvious reason. But it's not any problem to play the file in the prievew window!

What did you burn it with ? DVD Lab's burning engine can be a little iffy (actually, it can be a lot iffy). Try using soemthing else to burn with and see how you go.

  6. Now I've tried to burn it with Nero also! The same problem. I've also tried to copy a dvd a made on another computer before, and this file it is possible to use fast forward, or to change chapters. So then I don't belive it is the dvd-burner.

I've also tried many different DVD-discs!

    Anyone?

I've used Premiere for editing, TMPEG-enc for encoding, using the VideoServer between the two programs. And finally DVDlab for authoring!

Is there any settings I've done wrong?

    The settings I use is:

    In Premiere:
    PAL
720x576 with pal pixel aspect ratio
    25 frames per sec
    48000 Hz sound (16 bit)
    Fields: Lower fields first

    In TMPEGenc:
    Stream type: MPEG2
    Size: 720x576
    Aspect Ratio: 4:3
    Frame rate: 25fps
    Constant bitrate
    Bitrate: 8000
    Main Profile & Main Level
    PAL
    Interlace
    4:2:0
    8 bits

    Video source type: Interlace
    Field order: Bottom fields first
Source aspect ratio: 4:3 625 line (PAL)
    Video arrange method: Full screen
    Stream type: System (video+audio)
    everything else as default

    In DVDlab:
    PAL
    720x576 Full D1

    so why? Anyone?

  8. I've found the problem!

It was the bitrate settings with CBR instead of VBR that I couldn't use!

So if anyone have this problem in the future, well, thats the answer!

Can you please explain what you mean? I authored some DVD's with TMPGEnc for encoding, and I had the exact same problem with fast-forwarding (I used DVDAuthorGUI for authoring).
    My movies were NTSC, though.

Why dredge up such an old post instead of starting a new one ?

I suspect in this case that the first encode was somehow corrupted or more likely, outside the spec.. I have authored many discs in DLP, using both CBR and VBR encoding, and have never experienced this type of problem. The method of encoding should have no effect o the way the disc is read, so long as it is within DVD specs.
