  1. I've got TMPGEnc. I've got DivX. I can play avi movies in Windows Media Player, so there is no problem with the actual movie itself, BUT, when I pick an avi file in TMPGEnc after hitting BROWSE it says "File BLAH BLAH can not open or is unsupported". I'm going crazy trying everything. It can't be this hard - can it?? PLEEZ help me!!!

    Thanks

Hello, sorry about my last reply, I was not sure if I was using the right username and password for this site, I have become very experienced with VCD the last few months, I have never used the software that you are using, but what I am thinking is that the software might require the right vcd parameters for it to accept the avi file. For example, I do all of my encoding in NTSC format, which means the screen size has to be 352*240 pixels in size at 29.97fps. You might want to check out the statistics of your avi file, this might be your problem, if you are still having problems, email me and Ill see if I can email you some software that might work out better for you. Sorry Scott, I know thats not the problem. I have the same problem with TMPGEnc and it's not the settings. You can't even add it to the project. Anyway, Oztaff, I haven't solved the problem. Its probably a simple solution, but I don't know it. All I know is that I got Panasonic encoder to do the same thing for me, but it was a trial. Since it was a trial, it only did 30 seconds of the movie. Kinda pointless, right? Wrong, it made me realize there isn't anything wrong with the file, my computer, or the fact that was converting something that might not be possible. So, if you get an answer, please e-mail me or something, I'd really like to know before I go on vacation so I can have some movies. Thanks

Ok, ignore what I just said. I solved it. Here:

click on options the click environmental settings the click the VFAPI Tab
ok, now right click on (direct show multimedia file reader) and raise its
priority up to 2, then raise (AVIVFW) to 1. then raise (AVI2 open dml file reader) to 1 as well, be sure the are checked. the ones you just raised should be the top 3 and the others should be below them. direct show should be #1.
try this is should take most avi files.
if you have quick time files, then raise the priority on it to the #1 position, and it should ope them as well.
    That worked for me.

  5. Okay first

    Is the movie complete?
If it is,use DivFix and to rebuild the index then open up the file in VDUB.Then reencode the file as the divx.avi (set the divx settings and stuff). Now try opening it in tmpgenc and hopefully it should work.

The problem you have happens to me on some occasions and doing this usually works.Sometime's it doesnt accept because the movie isnt totally complete. So a good thing is to do the thing above.

    Hope this helps.
