Hi!
I've bought a new NEC 3500A DVD-burner.
This is my first time ever I have one, so I'm a bit confused about these region-things.
I got my burner set to 'region 2', naturally, because I'm in Europe. There is possibility to change region settings for 4 more times before the unit locks itself (on the last picked alterative). I know that there is a FirmWare hack that makes it region free, but i won't play with these things until I've got following thing prefectly clear for me.
When I burn a discs that I authored myself will it get burned as region 2 disc - thus be only playable in region 2 or region free DVD-players?
Or is this region thing on a dvd-burner only important when it comes to playing of actual commercial region devided DVD-releases?
I hope that you understand what I mean.
Any kind of feedback is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Discs your author/burn should be region-free (or "all-region"). The region 2 setting should only apply to discs you are playing in the writer. There are several ways to override this setting, including applications to reset the counter, applications to override the counter, & firmware hacks to disable it. I'll keep my eyes open for relevant firmware.
P.S. Nice writer. If God had intended us not to masturbate he would've made our arms shorter.
