  1. Im capturing stuff off my Sky+ box, most channels are fine but sometimes the captured avi plays back with the distorion like the attatched image shows and I don't know what causes it, I use IUVCR to capture but can't seem to correct the problem.

is it because it is a ntsc source, I think i recall having the same distortion when capturing videos off of my consoles.

    TIA

Normal. It's called Interlacing. The image will look fine on a TV screen. Computer monitors display video differently from TV sets.

  3. I thought that and burned it anyway and played it back on my dvd player but the problem was still there.

Try reversing your field order when capturing.

Try opening one of the app's config text files and look for the string "field" or "field order", and look for an "A" or a "B". Whatever it is, change it to the other one. You could use Explorer to search in the app's directory for the text string.

You could try VirtualVCR. It works well for me.

Also, if you can't change the field order during capture, you could change it when you encode it to mpeg.
