  1. okay, i've looked everywhere for how to do this but i can't find how anywhere. i want to add hard subtitles to an avi file and then have the output be avi too. all i can find is guides where the output is mpeg. i already have a .ssa file and a avi file ready to go, and i know how to add subtitles with virtualdub and do frameserving. if anyone could please help that would be great. thanks!

If you can do that much already, after you have them loaded in VirtualDub....

  3. i did that and it made a huge file that wouldn't even fit on my hard drive. then i tried different compression, but the sound had some sort of problem where i was supposed to extract it to wav and reencode it with a constant bit rate. so i turned audio to full processing and mp3 compression. so the audio doesn't sound too great and the video is messed up in the beginning using a divx codec. the xvid codec was even worse though, it had this crazy bouncing effect.

How much hard disk space do you have? I'm a big fan of the PicVideo MJPEG codec. Give it a looksee.

Only 11gb? Come on. You can't be serious.

Actually, he is serious. If he did not select a codec, his uncompressed AVI can easily reach 11 GB. Select a codec and try again.
    Hello.

Maybe I just misinterpreted his response. I assumed that he probably felt 11gb was excessive or something.
