is there a way to make a widescreen DVD a fullscreen VCD when i convert it?

i've been converting a widescreen DVD to VCD for a friend of mine. Please don't ask me why he wants to do that or suggest that he should not do that. My problem is when i convert the DVD to VCD, the VCD got a black space on top and below the picture. How do you remove this black space? my friend got a old model VCD player that does not support widescreen...please don't also suggest that my friend should buy a new player or tv that support widescreen can't do that he might borrow money from me

i used resize filter of virtual dub to remove those black space but if you could suggest a better way then i would highly appreciate it ...

    one word: dont

fullscreen is horrible, your chopping up the picture, and some home-made fullscreen will be worse, since you cant pan and scan, you could only have in the middle of the screen.

but if you wish to destroy your movie, theres a filter in TMPGEnc to keep it in the middle, and chop off the sides, one of the "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)" ones

Your DVD player can make it full screen by zooming if that's what you want.

Every DVD player ive come across has a Zoom function on it, surely thats easier.

Also since a lot of WS versions are filmed super35mm, the WS is actually cropped from the FS one, and then your gonna crop it again, that means when your done, about 75% of the original print is missing, not a way to watch a film.

This seems familiar, so I did a quick search. You asked the same question back in August - https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=235024&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc...n%20fullscreen

This is shaping up to be pretty much that same type of discussion.
