  1. Hi,

I was hoping someone could help a newbie.

I can't get any CD-R or CD-RW's to play on my set-top DVD player. I've tried a bunch of different combinations, and read enough to need glasses now. Here are my details.

My player is a Sony DVP S330. It is a year or two old but it says right on it that it can play Video CD's.

I converted my edited movie (project) directly from Premier 6.0 using the bundled LE version of LSX-MPEG by Ligos. I have used about every combination of settings that seem to be available. That is, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, Video CD, and Super VCD. Most of the profiles I "loaded" directly from Ligos so I don't think I changed the aspect ratio or resolution to something other than it should have been.

I created my "DVD" projects in MyDVD. Here I have used all four choices for projects. That is, MPEG1 (DVD Compliant), MPEG2 (DVD Compiant), MPEG1 for cDVD (allow any MPEG1 file), and MPEG2 for cDVD (allow any MPEG1 file). Depending on the project settings chosen, the program would only allow me to add the appropriately formatted file type (e.g., Video CD, MPEG-2, etc.).

Then I am able to burn the disc. I have used CD-R and CD-RW. I now know that my deck is not capable of reading the CD-R, but I would have thought that the CD-RW would have solved the problem.

The deck just says "No Disc" when I put the disc in the tray.

One last bit of information. I get a warning when I burn the disc that "Your project contains MPEG video thathas illegal parameters for DVD. This disc will be playable with PC-DVD players but NOTin set-top DVD players."

I am trying to put my video projects on CD-R or RW media so that I can play them like movies (DVD's) on my TV. From all I've read, this should be OK if I have a deck that supports CD-R and RW's. I just can't figure out where I am going wrong. I've spent hours converting my projects to different MPEG types and trying to get them to play. They all work on my PC but none on my TV.

I am very new to this, so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Please also be as detailed as you can because none of this is really very clear to me yet.

    Thanks!!!

    Jim

  2. Jim,

I have the same problem on my Sony S336. I have tried everyuthing I know and failed. I ahve even chipped my dvd and made it region-free and still cant play them - Th eonly thing I can think is its SVCD which I believe isnt suported by this model. I cxan play these on my normal PC however.

myDVD only produces miniDVD/cDVD (dvd-video on cd-rw/cdr) and that don't work on most dvd players.

use any of these apps to author and burn vcd or svcd from the mpeg files

I don't think the problem is with the CD's you made. Your DVD player simply won't accept CDR & CDRW. If your player won't accept CDR, more than likely it won't accept CDRW. Why don't you take the CD's you made and see if it will play on other machines.

  5. Thanks for the responses. I think I actually found my problem.

I was trying to author VCD's using a DVD authoring software. So the media was never my problem (nor the player. At least according to the compatability chart I looked at). I just wasn't burning VCD's even though that is what format I created when I encoded. The end product was actually a DVD with a VCD format movie on it.

MyDVD simply doesn't author vcd's or SVCD's. When I get the energy, I'm going to try one of those programs you suggested, or some other freeware, and actually author a VCD on CD-RW's not CD-R's

    Thanks for the help!!

  6. P.S. Baldrick actually said the same thing above in a shorter way, but I didn't get it at first.

    Thanks again.
