  1. Hello all,

Forgive me if this question has been answered. There are so many "not working" threads that it's tough to wade through them all...and it seems most deal with playback of burned media. The problem I'm having is that my Cendyne 4x DVD-R drive can recognize cd's, but not DVDs. When I put a cd in, it recognizes and starts playing. If I put a dvd in, I can hear it making a noise, and the drive light remains on. The disk just keeps spinning but nothing happens. I can eject the disk using the button on the drive itself, but that's the only way to get the dvd back out. I've used a disk cleaner and the problem persists. Just curious if anyone has any idea what I can try? I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with SP1. It's been working for a year now and just all of a sudden had the problem.

    Thanks.

As always please give more information - what is your DVD Hardware and computer and software and what DVD are you trying to read - a Commercial or one that someone made ETC.

With more information I am sure someone will be able to help.

  3. Hmmm...more information. Off the top of my head my DVD drive is a Cendyne DVR-105, I believe. It's a DVD-R burner, re-write drive. I'm running Windows XP Home edition with Service Pack 1. I have an AMD Athlon chip that's rated at 1.66mghz, I believe. 512mb Ram. I can't read commercial DVDs or copies. It recognizes commercial cds and copies.

Am I leaving anything out? I'm using Windows Media to watch and listen to stuff. But when I put a DVD in, it doesn't even recognize it because the drive is having problems reading it. The DVDs I can play in my standalone DVD player with no problems.

  4. Uninstall it in control panel system & restart the computer or you can use Restore & return to a point it worked. Since 12x writers are only $55 these days, consider getting a new one to save yourself time.

Great. Thanks for the info. I figured it was probably not worth the time to try and fix...just hoping there might have been a simple solution.

    Thanks again.
