I have some MPEG-2's that have commercials in them and I'd like some suggestions for the right tool for converting them to Divx. VirtualDubMod is nice except it doesn't encode audio or do Divx 2 pass. Vidomi is great except it won't let me take out commercials like VirtualDubMod. Currently, I use MPEG Video Wizard to cut the commercials. Then, I use Vidomi for encoding Audio/Video to Mpeg 3 and Divx. I'd like to be able to save all my converting projects to a que and process them all at once.Anyone know of an easier way?

Hello,
virtualdubmpeg2 should do any type of divx conversion and does the audio for me (mp3 if you have lamemp3 installed). Give it a try.
Kevin
--by the way, for virtualdub I believe you need to select {audio - full processing - compression} then choose mp3--Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Ok. I've tried VIrtualdubmpeg2 but Lame (or any other MP3 compressor) doesn;t show up in the codec list. I can encode with lame in vidomi so why not virtualdubmpeg2?

If you have access to TMPGenc DVD Author, import as a video file, and then goto Chapter Cut Edit once your video has been imported
Set you start and end points, then click on Cut, agree to the warning and that section will be removed, but not from the source video, so if you screw up you won't lose anything
Remember to reset the start and end points to the very start and very end of what you are editing when finished with cutting the commercials out
Also has the added advantage of creating the DVD ready files for burning to DVD or converying to DivX/xVid -
try installing a copy of lame in the same directory as Virtualdubmod. I think that'll let you select it.
RogThere are many ways to measure success. You just have to find your own yardstick. -
I copied the Lame 3.97 dll into the Vdub folder with no luck. I see som PCM's and Windows Media Audio but no Lame.

A sincere question coming up..
Do you even have the .mp3 codec installed on your system?? -
Apparently not. I remember being able to encode with lame in vidomi and goldwave but perhaps the lame codec comes with them? Anyway I did figure out how to get lame working in virtualdub mpeg-2. To bad there aren't many options for 48000khz. I suppose if I convert to 44100khz it will change the pitch/length correct?

Have you tried http://www.divx.com/divx/drdivx/ ? It is very easy to use and I love it.

Ok, I've encoded an episode using VirtualDub Mpeg-2 and the sound is out of synch. I had to put in an Audio Skew Correction to match it up at the beginning of about -250ms. In the middle of the file, the sound is about 2 sec off and at the end it synchs up again. The original file plays the audio fine. Ideas?

Nevermind, I think Average bit rate encoding was messing it up. CBR seems to fix it.
