I ordered a 25 pack of Khypermedia 4x DVD-Rs from OfficeMax a couple weeks ago to get over their $50 free shipping minimum. I've used their DVD+Rs before, and they were CMCs, which so many people seem to despise here. I've never had anything but great luck with CMCs, with not one coaster using CMC +Rs from Memorex, HP, Khypermedia (using NEC 1300a). Anyway, I assumed that these'd be CMCs as well, but they have the TTG01 media code. I thought it was worth mentioning as Khypermedia is commonly found at local retailers CHEAP. And people seem to have a lot more favorable opinions of this TTG01 media vs CMC. I know Prodisc and Ritek, etc can be had cheap online, but this will give a decent option on cheapo media bought locally. The packaging looks the same to me, and it says made in taiwan under the UPC, so I don't know if there is any way to tell CMC vs TTG01 from the packaging. I've burned a couple so far, and they burned perfectly to the edge and Nero CD speed transfer rate speed tests were flawless.

Sorry Steve..
had a brainfart moment.
When did Khypermedia start selling as that? I've seen great deals on them...but I'm deathly afraid of CMC...Do a lot of wedding filming, and the people would not be pleased if they started going skip skip skip...

Taiyo Yudens are definately not made in taiwan.

TTG01 = TDK media = made in Taiwanese CMC factory, but likely using TDK materials/equipment = good discs to date

There is TTG01 (and G02) made in Japan, just to throw that out there.

I did find one post somewhere else from early August where he said that most of the 25 pack spindles he bought were, as he put it, really good TDKs. So this may have been going on for a while now. Everyone that knows anything about media codes has probably been avoiding Khypermedia assuming it was still CMC media. I'm new to using PI/PO scans for my discs and I only have a LiteON 163 DVD-ROM to do this type of test, but the one TTG01 Disc (4439mb in size) I've scanned using CD Speed had: PI Average of 13.70, max 55 and PIF average of 1.30, max 9. Most of my other, lesser, media I tested looked awful once they hit about 4gb. This media test looked great to the very edge of the disc, so it appears to be legit good media. This could become a really good deal if there is a way to differentiate CMC from TTG01 from the packaging (I almost didn't check the media code myself, assuming it would just be CMC). When I ordered it online it was $9.99 for a 25 pack with no rebates, and these prices are not uncommon. And $10 off $50 coupons are fairly common from OfficeMax, so potentially we could get 125 discs for $40. Pretty good deal for this media. I hope this info helps, hopefully someone figures some way to tell the 2 apart.
If anyone knows how to tell CMC from TTG01, let us know. Thanks -
I'm letting anyone that is interested in getting these discs, that they are going to be $9.99 per 25 pack starting tommorrow. It is in the Office Max ad that is up on their website now. I will probably go and get a couple of packs, if I do I'll respond back with what I find the media code to be, and also if there is any way to tell the difference between the media codes from the packaging.

The Khypermedia's being sold by TigerDirect in August were CMC's and had a 40-50% burn success rate.

Yeah? And the Khypermedia I bought at OFFICE MAX a couple weeks ago was TTG01...
I don't know if you read the whole thread - I, and the rest of us for that matter, are aware that Khypermedia has historically been CMC media, and that if you buy it now there is still a good chance that you will be getting CMC. I'll leave that up to you to decide whether you want to chance it and try a pack for 10 bucks to see what you get. If you positively despise CMC like some people on here do, then maybe you shouldn't buy any. If you are like me and have used many CMC discs with ZERO coasters thus far, then there isn't really much risk with either media code. The PI/PO tests will just look prettier if I get discs with the TTG01 media code. -
Unfortunately not being a coaster is not the only factor to consider. Many poorer quality disks appear to burn just fine but then either prove incompatible when played on multiple systems or have pixellation and freeze problems in the video above 4GB. I've learned the hard way to only provide 1 or 2x TY's to my clients.

i remember buying a 10 pack of khypermedia dvd-r about a year ago.
it was TDKG0200000
it was also the first dvd-r i ever bought. -
Well, they work with no glitches for my 'clients' - friends and my own DVD players. I did not intend to make the thread into a discussion of peoples' experiences with CMC media, if you don't like CMC, good for you
. I think that anyone considering buying cheaper media, CMC included, should read up on whether or not that particular media works well with your particular burner. I'm using a NEC 1300a for almost all of my burning, however I've recently started using a Toshiba 5112 as well. I burned about 20 cheapo Sonic discs (MUST001) with my Toshiba drive. The PI/PO tests of these discs were quite high, and I had freezing near the end of one of the discs when playing it back. Now I burn them all with the NEC, as it burns these discs MUCH better, with much lower PI/PO #s and no glitches in playback. I agree that using Sonic or CMC for client discs would be a risk that is probably not worth taking. For me, though, I've used CMC discs burned with my NEC on 10+ DVD players with no problems encountered whatsoever. Did I mention that I didn't want to make this into a CMC discussion?

I bought a 25 pack today, and they turned out to be CMC AF1. I burned one disc and I wasn't too impressed with the PI/PO results (no errors, just had high numbers). Office Max actually allowed me to return the rest of them with no troubles, I just told them I wasn't happy with them. The packaging looks identical to my TTG01 without close inspection. However, there are differences between the TTG01 and the CMC packaging apparently. First, the TTG01 spindle has 6 paper punch size indentations surrounding the center spindle hole on the bottom of the spindle - none of the CMC spindles had these indentations. Secondly, the lip on the top outer edge of the lid of the TTG01 package sticks up about 1/4" - all of the CMC spindle lids extended up about 1/2". There were some other minor differences, but these were the two easy differences to spot. Also, CMC discs had a silver, mirrored ring about 1/4" thick a half an inch out from the center hole of the discs. You can't see the discs without opening the package in the 25 packs, though. You can, however, see the disc surface in their 10 packs - and all of their 10 packs I saw looked to be CMC media as well. My store had nothing but CMC on the shelves when I was in there, but I hope this info helps.
BTW, obviously I can't GUARANTEE that what I observed is the rule here (it's not like I bought every spindle they had), but I'd say that what I observed is very likely the case.
Anyone that finds the TTG01 media in their stores, let us know please. Thanks -

If you live in the USA just purchase TDK DVD-R from Costco, 25 spindle for $19.99, media code is TTG01.
Khypermedia is on sale for $9.99 per 25 pack every 2 or 3 weeks now. I'd rather pay $10, not $20, thanks.

I got some Maxells from Staples on sale this week, $9.94 for 15. Turned out to be TYs.
-
And if my OfficeMax gets the TTG01 in, they'll be $9.99 instead of $19.99 Khypermedia is on sale for $9.99 per 25 pack every 2 or 3 weeks now. I'd rather pay $10, not $20, thanks.
And how do you know they are TTG01 media? Does Office Max take the discs back if they aren't TTG01 media? I like Costco's return policy, they don't ask questions they just take anything back!
