  1. I always sit here about this time on a Friday bored waiting for something to happen at work. So I will start the same thread that I always do.

What you lot up to this weekend?

We are preparing the house for the rival of the monster next weekend. We have just sorted the bedroom and we just need to add some bear traps etc... Her mum ******* hates me and thinks that her daughter can do better, I want the house to just resonate expensive so I can stick my nose up at her and then back it all up with "I am only 24".

  2. Sounds damn fine to me, Russ.

I will be moving tomorrow - already shifted some stuff through but there is two carfuls to move tomorrow. Luckily, Bath is only an hour and fifteen away so it's not a monster drive. Having managed to pack it all up, I will probably spend a fair bit of tomorrow unpacking it all.

Sunday I will spend chilling out, maybe wander around the area I will be moving to and see what there is. I also plan to finish a pine TV stand I made yesterday.

    So, that's my weekend plan.

  3. Sitting here, supposedly getting ready for work... wasting time reading posts and trying to figure out how much work I "don't" have to do today...
And I'm also wondering if the g/f and I should go clubbing or to a "gents" club (my choice )

We shall see how the day unfolds as I really have to hit the shower and get my ass moving...

  4. I was supposed to be going to the cinema tonight to watch Hero - but the guy who's arranged it can't get a weekend pass from his missus, so there's nowt on for me tonight. I'm looking to pop down my mates house tommorow for a few beers and maybe a couple of movies. I'm bloody broke so it wont involve much.

    Hello,

Normal - caffine high in the morning (mountain dew) to get through the day. Then go home and watch some movies.

I just bought that movie and had imorted from Korea, ******* brilliant is all I can say. The film is excellent, picture is superb and with a full bitrate es track it has to rank in my top 3 for sound.

Have you got the two disc set like me ? Its nice on a widescreen TV but I really need to see it in the cinema to fully appreciate it. I'm on the lookout for a decent 5.1 setup thats not too pricey, any suggestions of what to look for or avoid ?

    Hello,

Make sure your 5.1 has dolby AND dts! And make sure it has plenty of input/output options for future expansion. You should find excellent sets for $200USD.

I'd have thought they all have DD 5.1 don't they ? But you're saying get one with DTS as well yes ? I'll need one with coax inputs(s) too.

    Hello,

I a meant get dts WITH Dolby. Dolby is on all Digital receivers, dts may not be.

You'll have to look to make sure they have coax/optical inputs. Some have one or the other, not boath.

I'm moving tomorrow too...into the house we just built. I'm so ******* excited. I stayed up all night doing homework and I'm going to be busy all day finalizing paperwork and going to closing, and going to class, but I don't care. The house came out better then we expected and we finally are getting out of the renting game.

  14. Did you design the house?, I have always wanted to do that. Maybe our next move we will.

No it was a model home. Its our first house and just a starter. We plan to upgrade in about five years and eventually we will probably hire an architect and do one from scratch. My Dad did that and his home is pretty damn pimp.

I got the living room wired for surround sound, so I may go ahead and buy all the speakers this weekend if I get time. They are going to be those cool, and actually good sounding, in-ceiling speakers made by Polk. Once installed they just look like recessed lighting. And we bought a very nice entertainment center that looks really rustic.

Congrats, Adam - that's the same way I felt 6 years ago when buying my first home and stopped paying rent....

Now you can hang pictures where you want and paint the walls whatever color you please - without someone else's permission - except maybe the Mrs.

I have no real set limit but I'm not blowing a small fortune on this. My only real stipulation is I don't go to Richer Sounds. I really only want it for the occasional movie, but there is no point in buying a bag o'shite is there ?

    Hello,

Get matched speakers! But pay more than $100!

Get a quality receiver and then get speakers. Or if you must get a combo all in one look in the $300USD and up range to better ensure quality. I have a sony receiver, jbl front speakers, sony sub, and pioneer rear and love it!

  20. Indeed, overclockers, richer sounds, don't you like anyone?.

I would check out www.avforums.com as I am not totally aufait with all in one boxes, you can get some pretty nice kit for about a monkey, with speakers, amp and progressive scan pal/ntsc dvd player.

My only advice would be spend at least 10-15% of your budget on cabling, it really does make a LOT of diiference.

I may have to bite the bullet and go back to richer sounds, much as I hate too. I would have thought coax is coax sin't it ? Its digital aint it ?

Oh, and how much is a monkey ?

I just mean that the developer gave us a number of different models to choose from, as opposed to designing the house from scratch. You pick your floorplan and they build it.

There's so many different models to choose from though so the neighborhood doesn't look cookiecutter like so many others do.

Yeah coaxial is digital and in my opinion it is much better than optical. Get a good digital coaxial cable and you will be well away.

So I'm going girlfriend shopping this weekend

Happy early Thanksgiving to our neighbors to the north!

So do you guys have a CFL thanksgiving game like we have 2 NFL games on our Thanksgiving???? I know you had a special CFL on Labor Day (I get CBC here in Plymouth, Michigan).

I've never really gotten into CFL since it's quite different from the NFL.
