Nelson, thanks. I always capture at 720X480 and go from there. When I first started going to DVD last year, I tried every format possible, but have had some new info come my way, hence the reason for switching what I am doing. I need all my games to be over 4G, due to some capability issues some of my friends have had with smaller DVD file sizes. I tried the 352X480 once and it looked like crap. Thanks for your input.

It looked like crap because your settings were wrong.

I used the ATI preset. Half Horizontal, 352X480 at 6Mbps, if I remember right.

I know. It was more a statement that this is one less piece of advice I can give. A newbie getting started no longer has this option (legally).

  5. My route:
    1. WinDV for transferring the DV file on the PC in AVI format.
    2. Encode the AVI file with Canopus Procoder Express at best quality settings to get the best MPEG quality.
    3. TMPEG DVD Author to make DVD files and use TDA DVD Writing Tool if the file is below 4.3Gb. Anything that will not fit into a DVD-5 and I use CloneDVD to let it "shrink" the files to fit a DVD-5.
    Hope it helps.
Only the GREAT WinDV here above is freeware. But, the other tools are not so expensive that might break your bank either!

  6. While it is true that reducing your resolution will not decrease filesize, iots also true that decreasing your res ALLOWS you to lower the bitrate without suffering quality loss. Lowering rez on a 720x480 capture will look terrible.
