How would I go about capturing TiVo'd programs to my computer to put onto to DVD, that will play in a standalone player?

I'm not sure if this the correct forum for this question, but as I understand that there are some hacks to the Tivo box that allow you to copy the MPEG file on the Tivo, to your computer. Not really a capture, per se. I'm not sure if the Tivo files are totally DVD compliant though. I have a ReplayTV and can copy the files over the built in ethernet port. The MPEG is DVD compatible, but some files need to be post processed to fix GOP errors....

You might want to check with a Tivo forum for a more definitive answer.

  3. You if you have a capture card in your computer, you can hook up the line out from the TiVO to the capture card, and use the "record to VCR" function on the TiVO.

  4. I have two devices that will output TIVO to my computer without hacking it.

First is the LeadTek Winfast USB TV II. You just hook up a coax cable to it and a audio out to the PC and USB 2.0 to your PC and your off. The only problem was that although the mpeg2 files on my computer were fine I always had a/c sync issues when burning to dvd.

After a month of messing with that I gave up and have now purchases an ADVC 100 to do the same thing. I run an S-Video and audio out to the ADVC and audio and firewire in to the PC. I have tested the capture and it works fine. I have made a DVD yet but I am pretty sure it should be ok.

Hopefully I get some time to do this over the weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

If it works for you, thats fine, but you will definitly see a marked decrease in video quality and as you already found out, A/V sync issues. Grabbing the MPEG stream directly from the unit is, IMO, the only solution.
