ScLive gives the option to capture to a single AVI file or several files using scene detect.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages to either of these options or is it just a matter of personal choice?

I guess if you plan to add transitions and the like it might be an advantage to capture to separate files. I personally find it easier to capture to one file and then use VirtualDubMod with AVISynth scripts to cut out commercials and split up captures into sections.
If in doubt, Google it. -
Thanks jimmalenko - I'm a total newbie and although I'd like to try every method, it's too time consuming. I have been capturing with a single file, but just wondered!
Could I ask you what writing program you use? -
writing ? do you mean burning ? encoding maybe ?
VirtualDubMod to edit via AVISynth scripts, TMPGEnc Plus to encode, TMPGEnc DVD Author to author and Nero to burn for me.If in doubt, Google it. -
Thanks again jimmalenko - I tried Nero but have had a few problems . I think I need to update to version 6

The other way to go is if using TMPGEnc DVD Author, use its inbuilt burning program to either burn directly or create an ISO and then burn that with DVDDecrypter.
If in doubt, Google it. -
Thanks - I did try TMPGEnc DVD Author, but keep getting a message that an error has been generated and a log will be written and then it hangs. Don't know what the error is so am going to try DVDDecryptor. Your help is appreciated.
