  1. I used VirtualDub to merge two AVI files, both about 700 MB each in size. I first opened the first one, then appended the second one, then saved the whole file as AVI. To my shock, the window showed a projected size of 117 GB (kid you not). The save was interrupted after 4 GB when the drive ran out of space. There is something very wrong here, or am I not picking the right save option?

After Appending ensure the option <Direct Stream Copy> is set in both VIDEO and AUDIO tabs....then go back to FILE and select Save As AVI (Save As if using VDM)....that file size of yours sounds like a default Video codec was set and you was NOT using Direct Stream Copy but <FUll Processing Mode>.

By the way why are you joining the AVI's?

Hi namsilat - monzie has already answered the first part. As for the 4Gb file limit, that's most likely because your file system is FAT32 and you need it to be NTFS. Or, indeed, you do only have 4Gb of disk space free...

What operating system are you working with? Update your profile with the info (Computer Information).

  4. Ok profile updated.

I have two AVI files that should take about 3 CD-R80, so I want to join them, convert/encode, then split into 3.
