Is there such a thing as a PAL PC monitor, and if so, does it use square pixels?

    Thanks

  2. Hey, DJRumpy, I thought you were an expert on aspect ratios (after your very useful guide on the subject).

To answer your question. No. PC monitors do not care about PAL or NTSC. PC monitors do have 1:1 ratio pixels (square? in theory maybe).

    Curious why you ask

I know that PAL television doesn't use a 1:1 pixel aspect, and neither does NTSC television, but I wasn't sure if the same was true for monitors sold in PAL land. All NTSC monitors use a 1:1 pixel ratio.

Just wanted to be certain I wasn't missing anything.

Nope, not missing anything, Euro monitors are exactly the same as US monitors (except perhaps the PSU voltage and the price )

I'm not interested in quality type arguments

I just wanted to know if they used square pixels, which it sounds like they do. It's important to know when resizing an XviD file for a PAL user, knowing it would be displayed on a PAL PC monitor.
