  1. I upgraded my PC from PIII 1Ghz to Pentium 4 3Ghz Hyper Threading.
I thought it would help to encode videos faster. But it still the same. 15 minutes of video takes about 15-20 minutes to encode. How can I make it fast?

It used to take 15 minutes on my old PC. Now with upgraded new PC it still takes 15 minutes. Doesn't faster PC help faster encoding? Myabe at least 7 mintues?

  4. How much RAM is installed in your PC? The amount and type of RAM ?
Are you running any other program while encoding?
What encoder are you using? oops ignore this question

  5. I browse the net while encoding. Hyper Threading is for multiple tasks right?
I had PC133 SDRam 512Mb Ram on my old PC.
    Now i have PC3200 512Mb Ram.

  6. Ignore Intel's hype. HyperThreading allows efficient execution of code for applications that have been tweaked for multi threading. Examples are AutoCAD and PhotoShop.

Most programs have not been upgraded/rewritten to take advantage of multi-threading.

CCE takes advantage of the second "virtual" processor.

  8. Ignoring hyperthreading, simply upgrading your processor like you have should give you nearly a 3-fold increase in encoding speed. Of course this is everything else being equal.

1st check your encoder settings are exactly the same as before. Encoding to DVD compliant mpeg-2 at 8000kbit/s will take a lot longer than encoding to VCD compliant mpeg-1.

2nd, check your HD is using DMA mode.

3rd, try an encode with the source file on one physical drive and the destination file on a different physical drive.

  9. Tmpg supports Hyperthreading (as they said on the official website) maybe it has been improve in version 3.

If you have hyperthreading, "multi-thread" is normally enabled by default in tmpg (it automatically detect it at the very first run of the program).
