I have a movie on DVD+R. How do I put it on a DVD-R without re-coding and/or with no loss in quality?

Copy the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders, and their content, to your harddrive from the DVD+R. Then use any burning program, such as NERO, to burn these two folders, and their contents, to the DVD-R. Note that the AUDIO_TS folder will be empty.

So, I can just use "disc copy" even though the source is DVD+R and the destination is a DVD-R?

Wrong information. He does not select DISC COPY.

Use DVD-VIDEO in NERO to copy the VIDEO_TS file. You'll drag those files in that folder to the other COLUMN in NERO which has another VIDEO_TS FOLDER. Then you can burn it. If you don't understand check this guide on how to burn with NERO.

i thought disc copy is for copying on the fly. so why would you use disc copy to copy from a hard drive? i just use dvd video from nero to burn the files off of the hard drive.

    Note to self:

    Read the question first

The source is a DVD+R. therefore a disc. therefore disc to disc. got it ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

i read the question and if i'm not mistaken there are some who have problems copying disc to disc (on the fly copying) which is why i suggested using DVD VIDEO to burn.

Even simpler: Use DVDDecrypter and read to ISO. Then write ISO with the same app (DVDDecrypter)

Don't do on the fly. Use disc copy, and select the disc-to-drive-to-disc option. Still easy.

  16. Why not on the fly? I always do on the fly and it works eveytime.

    I agree with you 150%.

  18. I am using the same method as lordsmurf suggested.

I am currently copying a load of DVD-Rs to take to uni with me (want to keep the originals at home just in case) - I am using Nero to copy them. I do not do a "Quick Copy" which is on-the-fly - I deselect this so Nero makes an image then burns. I have had a couple of failed burns due to read errors, which is why I now do this.

I agree with you both 200%.

It's still using disc copy though
    If in doubt, Google it.

There is too big of a margin for error.

That is why on the fly is not encouraged.

Never do disc to disc copy. What happens if there is a read error half way thru? Another nice coaster, that's what.

Hey folks, thanks for all the opinions, but I don't use Nero much for anything, because I have a slew of other programs. I just used RecordNow's disc copy function and burned it on the fly. Turned out perfectly.

It's hard to do unless you have BOTH a DVD burner and a DVD-ROM drive. Most people do not.

And even then, you've often got to have one on a separate bus of its own (meaning opposite IDE channels is not good enough, you have to put one one an ATA or RAID card to have 0% underruns).

It is far more abusive coaster-wise than drive to disc. I only do this for duplication work. If it's masters or personal stuff, I generally do disc-to-drive-to-disc.
