Just imagine getting the disk scratched, how much data area would you loose just where it is scrathed.

i dont think you have to worry about them being scratched. If these discs actually go out im sure they will have the TDK armor surface just like the upcoming blu-ray discs are gonna be.

I already find that the average DVD player will pause between layer switches. I find it irritating when it is not done right during movies. Now I can look forward to that happening 2 more times..... no thanks.l

I also can't see using common methods how you'd make that burnable at home easily. DVD/CD burners simply make a portion of the disk transparent or opaque. I suppose in the case of this it would need a substance that could have varying levels of opacity. I bet blanks would be pricey!
