First off.. i did search and found a few topics on this but im posting this jsut to ask the direct question..

I have a few OGM files. If i open in vdubmod and direct stream copy to avi from what i read ill get a good avi file.. do i have to do the same thing for the audio? i know that ogm is only a container.. and my files have 3 streams.. one audio one video and one sub txt.. i dont want the text (subs) just the audio and video so i can play in my phillips 642. i did just rename the file and it played ok on computer but i just want to make sure i do it to proper way.. OGM is sorta new to me.

    TIA everyone.

  2. You can remux the Audio and Video to the AVI container, and expect it to play in your DVP-642 only if the file formats are compatible with both the AVI package, and your DVP-642.

If the audio stream is Vorbis, i'm afraid you'll have to convert it to MP3, or AC3. Seems like MP2 should work, but i havn't tried it.

Video stream must be one of the MPEG-4 codecs; DivX, XviD, etc., etc.

I havn't tried subtitles yet, but this machine is supposed to be able to play them. All you need is the latest firmware (that my unit came with).

Subtitle files with the following filename extension .sub, .srt, and .smi are supported.
    (from the DVP-642 manual)

It wasn't the selling point for me either.

I'm still amazed that i can "dump" multimedia files on to a CD, or DVD in the most disorganized way, and most the files will play on my DVP-642.
