Every time a seal is killed the MPAA kills a kitten. Think of the Kittens.

If it's got fur and some point in time it's in season here.Originally Posted by ViRaL1

I thought deer hunting was illegal (in PA), or is it just a shorter season or more limited amount you are allowed to kill?Originally Posted by thecoalman

There's many seasons, 2 weeks for rifle alone. I think they took over 125,000 last year during rifle season alone. That's oof the top of head but it was something like that. If you go anywhere near the woods during deer season it's like a war zone on first day, that's when most of the accidents happen.Originally Posted by Doramius
I think your allowed one deer per year but with certain tags such as the ones given too farmers you can get more than that. I don't know I don't hunt. -
My gf says she'll have more respect for hunting when the animals can shoot back. :P

Deer have antlers and birds have talons. They have weapons. Did you see my other thread where a deer attacked an unarmed man in Montana?

Around here those so many of them they do kill people, not on pupose obviously but they cause a lot of accidents. My one uncle never had a new truck in his entire life, went and bought one and two weeks later a deer totaled itOriginally Posted by ViRaL1

No, she eats meat. I don't think she's opposed to the idea of killing animals, just hunting for sport.

Every piece of venison that gets hauled out of the woods by anyone I know gets used for something... Even the front quartes are stripped and the meat ground for sausage. Nothing gets wasted except the guys doing the cutting and packingOriginally Posted by ViRaL1

same in Michigan -- 4 million deer and 1 million hunters and a lot of deer/car accidents -- sometimes the highway is littered with dead deer all over the place ..Originally Posted by thecoalman"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)

I resent that comment. I have at no time been neither "nice" nor "polite"Originally Posted by fritzi93
Here in Ohio each hunter is allowed 2 deer tags. The deer here in Ohio have gotten so bad that they are almost a varmit. I see herds of deer almost every morning, especially now that corn and beans are being harvested. Some days herds as many as 30. I don't know about other states other than Tennessee, but our deer are big animals. In TN they are about the size of German Shepards, but in Ohio they are about the size of a small calf. I heard a guy in TN bragging about a deer he shot...field dressed at 86 pounds
he was proud as proud could be...in Ohio that would be a waste of time and amunition. Hell, the school where I coach cancels school on the first day of gun season and students are allowed 3 excused absences for deer season...that's the truth
Will, the younger deer is called a button buck...that is a male deer that still has it's spots, but as far as I know, there is no name for young deer meat. It's all vennison as far as I know. -
Yeah, there's that. A few get shot each year. But how about the dozens who have heart attacks? It's no joke trying to drag a deer out of the woods. My last one damn near killed me.Originally Posted by thecoalman
Screw that, I don't actually hunt anymore, just take the gun for a walk.
I studiously ignore all deer silly enough to present themselves. If they annoy me enough, I'll say: "Bang. You're dead, you dumb f**k, now run along." It's just an excuse to be out in the woods in late autumn.
P.S. To you non-hunters: No, it's not that easy. Within ten minutes on opening day, every deer in the state knows it's being hunted.

You're right, I failed to qualify that statement. It should read "ALMOST everybody"Originally Posted by northcat_8

In Pennsylvania, we actually have holidays for the opening days of both Doe and Buck season. (those are deer genders for those who don't understand) All of the schools are closed, and some businesses. You cannot believe how obsessed people are with hunting. All year long, people try to find things to hunt. For example: my uncle owns a farm (doesn't farm, has all land in government programs) and 2 summers ago, he went on a rampage and killed almost every coyote in the area. I'm not exaggerating either. Him, along with his brothers, wiped out the coyote population!!! Their reasoning for doing this: crop damage... oh, and the kill the deer!!!
The obsession with killing small animals in central PA is unreal. -
No denying the poacher is all too common, but not all hunters fall into that category. There presently isn't any practical alternative to hunting, unless we're willing to be overrun with starving deer. Hate the *******, yahoo, so-called "hunters", though.Originally Posted by smearbrick1
I see coyoyes regularly, but have never shot at one. They say in some places the coyotes are partial to small pets like cats and chihuahuas, which makes them unpopular.
I lived for a time in Laramie, Wyoming, and the "ki-dorgs" out west are considerably smaller, as well as more vocal. I'm not sure the ones here aren't a separate sub-species.
