Can anyone point me to the avsforum thread about the black level bug? Several on this forum have claimed all Toshibas have it, but when I check the recordings I get from my D-KR2 (either by playing them on other DVD players, or importing them onto the computer) I do not see any problem.
My understanding is that Toshiba corrected this error with the "2" series, but I am concerned that some claim all Toshiba recorders still have the error.
What test would you consider definitive to either show the bug still exists, or has been properly put to rest?

When I first noticed the black level bug on the Panasonic E30 I used my own sight as a reference. One day I was playing an store bought dvd on my dvd player and noticed that it was much dark and had more color saturation than the disk I created using the E30.
At this point I still hadn't determined that something was wrong, I felt it might have been that the video source was very light. What I did was look at the original vhs tape through my television bypassing the dvd recorder. I noticed the video was darker than the video I created using the dvd recorder.
As I created more disks I noticed all the disks were lighter than the original and the color looked washed out. I went online and found out that it wasn't me but a defect with the E30.
I then purchased the E50 after hearing that the problem was solved. It was like night and day, the video was darker and the color was no longer washed out.Do unto others....with a vengeance!
