i got this liteon 2001 player today in UK...
it plays VCD and DVD very well
i m anime fans so i got lots of animes in avi format
it seems this player couldnt play a lot of old animes such as shaman king, great teacher onizuka, hack sign, flame of recca, hunter x hunter TV.
the screen says: can't playback, audio and video not supported.
What shall i do? Any advices ? how to fix this problem?
I havent upgraded anything yet...i guess they came in default version
NEw animes such as naruto, hunter x hunter GI Final, Aishiteruze Baby, etc can be played perfectly.

You need also to take a look at what format the files are in. Use something like AVIcodec to analyze the file on your PC. Especially note the audio bitrate - if it's very low, the player will refuse to play the file at all. If you still can't get it to play the AVI's, post a screenshot of the AVIcodec window and I or someone else can suggest why it doesn't play.
You may have to reencode some of the files with a program such as Dr.DivX to get them to play on your LVD-2001.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -

If I remember correctly the firmware update comes as an image file. In Nero, use the Burn Image function on the Recorder menu.
<edit> I just checked and indeed, extracting the ZIP file gets you an ".NRG" file. This is an image file to be used with the Burn Image function of Nero. -
Have you looked to see whether the files are DivX 3, 4, or 5 (or maybe Xvid?). The firmware upgrade does improve the player's capability for DivX 3.11, but I noted no difference at all on DivX 5.1 files. What didn't play before the upgrade, still doesn't play. Some people say (though it is not my experience) that the player got worse after the firmware upgrade.
In my case, the files that don't play at this point are all DivX 5.1 files that have low audio bitrates. The discs load, looks like it might play, then just freezes. However, in these cases, I didn't get the message "audio and video not supported". For these low bitrate files, the player's screen stays black, and quite often the player has a hard lockup, and I have to pull the plug to reset it.
In your case, since you're getting this message, I suspect you may have files that the player doesn't support at all (OGM, maybe?). Or, it may be the audio is in a different format than MP3/AC3. You need to check it out with AVICodec, like I mentioned earlier. That will probably answer your question.
That said, it won't hurt to do the upgrade, as any DivX 3.11 files you have will play much better after the upgrade, assuming you have any in that format. Follow what junkmalle told you in order to upgrade the player. There is a TSP file that you have to load first IIRC, then the actual upgrade. The instructions are on the LiteOn website.Ethernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny -
This my be somewhat OT, but the LVD 2001 is somewhat eclipsed by the newer DivX/Xvid capable players that are out. These new players are pretty cheap too and play DivX/XviD by large fairly flawlessly. It may be time to look for a newer player if DivX playback is important to you.
