Looking for the best way to remove the MGM opening clip, extras, opening and closing credits on each episode, while keeping the menus intact. Cutting all that out should reduce the total size by almost a gig... Then I plan to use dvd2one to make it fit on a dvd-r.
I was thinking dvdremake pro, but last time I checked you couldnt remove video from the middle of a clip, only the beginning or the end.
Could use TMPG dvd author but then I lose the original menus...
Anyone have a good method or suggestions?
Thanks

are the start/end credits etc not just complete cells you can remove?
if not then have you downloaded the latest version of DVDRemake as it has a split cell feature which allows you to split the cell. You can then chop the end off the 1st half of the cell and the beginning of the 2nd half to simulate cutting the middle section of a cell out
you can only do this with closed GOP's though as DVDRemake won't allow this split cell feature. I think you may be able to hack the registry to allow it so I will check my registry
you can do it also do it manually
1. open the DVD and then open a new project also
2. in the new project add a VTS so you have 2 and create a PGC in each VTS and add a cell to each one
3. replace the cell in the 1st VTS with the one you want to edit from the original by using the replace cell option
4. use the 'cut from here' to snip the end of the cell off to create the 1st part of the cell you want to keep
5. replace the cell in the 2nd VTS like you did in step 3 with the original one
6. use the 'cut to here' to leave just the 2nd part of the cell you want to keep
7. export the project
8. Get hold of FILEMERGER (Click HERE for download link)
9. Drag n drop VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_02_1.VOB into the Filemerger window
10. Set the path and name for the merged file at the bottom
11. Click Merge
12. Now goto the original DVD and replace the 1st cell with your newly merged VOB from Filemerger
I know you can do the cropping in DVDShrink as that's how I first did this. Doing it with DVDShrink though means you need to load the complete DVD in so why do it when it's already loaded in DVDRemake
if the episodes are in the same VTS then you can use the substitue block feature on the start/end credits. You just keep the start/end credits in one episode and then link them in the others to that episode
if you do have time then you could even run them through DVDShrink's reauthor. Grab the title and crop the start/end credits and compress at 60% for example . You can then reinsert just those cells back into your main project -

lol, so I've just been playing in the registry for the last 5 minutes for nothing then?
I found the edit anyway so if anyone's interested or they can't use all 3 cutting options (like I couldn't) just ask
p.s. what's this registry setting I found ? :P
