I can't seem to find anyone else reporting a windows crash once they tell DVDAuthorgui.992 to actually start authoring. my only hunch, based on other DVDAuthorgui-related posts, is that maybe this GUI just doesn't like w/98.

The error I get says (essentially): exception 0E has occured @....
in VxD IFSMGR(01) ... called from .... in VxD in VMM(01)

Can anybody shed any light on this problem?

    Thanks.

could you post a screenshot? I have tested under win98 and it works completely fine (other than typical fat32 problems)

could you elaborate on the "typical FAT32 problems"?
    is that my problem?
once, it took a minute before the BSOD kicked in, and
I got a small box in the upper left corner titled "oldapp",
if I recall correctly. This is my first attempt at attaching
a jpg to one these posts...here goes.

    thanks for the help!

no, by typical fat32 problems, i mean filesizes are restricted to 4 gig in size, so i doubt seriously if thats your problem. I did a quick google check, and discovered a lot of different things are associated wit hthat error:

IMHO, it sounds like you are dealing with low resources, dvdauthorgui (like most authoring programs) is not very 'resource friendly'.

One thing i would like you to try is: In the dvdauthorgui directory, there is a 'process.bat' file. Run this by itsself (It should bring up a dos window). Let me know if the process runs correctly, or if it brings up that BSOD also.

    yep, process.bat gets created (along with menu.xml & config.xml)
before everything freezes up; and after I reboot, if I open a DOS-window
and run process.bat, everything is processed and the resulting files give
me a good burn. If I didn't have to reboot to run the .bat I wouldn't
complain, because the software works great, otherwise.

Before running your GUI, I close down all my TSR's.
    I'm using a duron950 processor with 512Mb RAM.

    thanks, again!

Im still investigating the problem, but im not really getting anywhere. I just verified that the gui is working correctly under win98se. (I authored a small dvd on it and it worked correctly). This leads me to think it has to be something specific with your system. (Either a hardware or software problem). When you say, 'TSRs', what background applications do you have running? (antivirus, popup blockers, etc).
