I simply can't address general complaints. Post the *.INF file from MDGx.
--edit--
OK, i think i've found the *.INF file your talking about.

This *.INF looks suspiciously familiar.![]()
It looks like someone has added settings for Windows Media Player. It would be a good idea to use one or the other *.INF but you would certainly run into problems if you installed this one first and then installed mine. As soon as you uninstalled mine the settings for Windows Media Player would be orphaned.
By themselves there is really nothing wrong with either one. They both answer a different question.

Well your INF was tried before anything else was tried, so I'm not sure how the MDGx INI would have influenced the uninstall procedure of yours. Also, I'm not asking you to address my complaint, I signed up here just to let you know it happened. I *wish* I could help you address whatever happened, for you sake. I'm done with messing with this INF. I made a batch file for myself that just does self-register method, using FhG 3.4.0 version.
Thanks for the efforts though, I'm sure it works fine for 99% of people. -
Refresh your page. I just edited the last post.
If this is the *.INF that your talking about i see nothing that would uninstall your codecs as soon as you installed the INF.
My Diagnosis: User Error
Since the MDGx *.INF and the one i posted are almost 'One-In-The-Same', they should affect your system in almost the same way. If you install both, and then uninstall one of them, the codec itself will be removed from your PC but remaining entry in "Add/Remove" will be left behind.
In it's present state this *INF just isn't capable of uninstalling any video codec.
--edit--
I just noticed that the "modified" (miko) version of this *.INF has the 'NT' stuff removed. If someone installs this on Win2k or WinXP they might not get the registry settings in just right.

There is a difference that probably won't work right on a Win2k-XP system in the MDGx *.INF.

But according to Microsoft, the XP version should have quotation marks (in red).
Description of the MP3 Encoding Plug-In for Windows Media Player for Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306494
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Settings\MP3Encoding","LowRate",0x00010001,56000
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Settings\MP3Encoding","LowRate",0x00010001,24000
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ MP3Encoding","PreferredCodecName ","YourPreferredCodecName"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Settings\MP3Encoding","PreferredCodecPath","C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\YourPreferredCodec.acm "Whats clear here is that miko never intended this file as a fix for Windows XP. It's clearly labeled "WIN98SE".

But that isn't the way it's listed at MDGx's site;

well I'm glad I at least brought this to your attention. the miko version has propigated itself around the net very well, and the several most popular places (according to pagerank) are all either not listing the compatibility, or actually saying it's for 2K/XP. >_<
Well at least I'm a lot more familiar with how INF installs work now.I can thank miko and MDGx for that. Actually, I thought you were miko at first, but after comparing there are some big differences in the INF... not to mention - where's his thanks to you?? He didn't even mention that he didn't make (or more like f* up) the INF he posted all over the place. Oh well, it's not my concern.
thanks for the info about the profiles too. i did need to go in and set those up again on my system after MDGx's INF deleting them after his uninstall >_< so that is a good help. -
where's his thanks to you?
I didn't do this to be famous.........and i borrowed from other sources too. That's how ya learn how things work.
