I chimed in with this issue in another thread on this forum earlier this week. I wasn't too clear in that post so I thought I'd raise a fresh issue and hopefully be more succint.

I'm fairly adept at the backup process for DVDs. Also, I've tried TMPGEnc DVD Author to splice together DVD video in VOB format from ripped sources. Though this program works for some films, it unfortunately strips out the subtitles from any VOB stream. This can be problematic for movies that use subtitles in the narrative, such as when actors switch languages, or in foreign films.

How can I edit together VOB files from a ripped DVD and preserve the subtitles? For my own personal enjoyment on movies which I own, I'm trying to re-insert deleted scenes into a few movies that have subtitles and I naturally want to preserve those subtitles.

    Thanks in advance.

no menus though. if you want that you could use dvd-lab pro but if you want to keep the subs you must either demultiplex them and add them manuall or use ifoedit to fix it.

  3. DvdReMake Pro with its "cut" and "split" functionality may be what you are looking for. You import whole DVD, cut out things you dont like, insert some more stuff. DRM will modify disk structure and navigation to keep up with your changes.

Totally didn't know that DVDShrink was capable of this. I haven't tried the software in 18 months or more so I guess it has come a long way.

I'll check out DVDReMake pro too. Thanks for the tips, both of you. Hopefully this'll pull off what I'm trying to accomplish. Though it's possible I'll already know the answer to this before I check back in, do these do frame-accurate editing, or keyframes only?

I assume there are no built-in editing effects like wipes and crossfades.

  5. DvdReMake is not frame accurate, it cuts at GOP boundaries

Any recommendations on a frame-accurate editor?
