Having said that....you still need to look into your camcorders menu screen to see if you need to enable the camcorder to record from a source(if it is able to do this) other than through the lens. As soon as you turn your camcorder on...it is ready to record through the lens right?
Well you need to direct it to the other source. It doesn't know that you would like to use it as a VCR....or a passthru....you need to tell it.
I would look on the internet for your make and model number to see even IF your camcorder can do this first....but I think most can....but you did say you lost the book YEARS ago so...you never know.
Good luck to ya'

I hooked up the camcorder to the vcr with S video- Didn't work- Then tried standard cables. Still didn't work.
I'm trying to play the vhs tape, and copying it on to my digital camcorder. Maybe you can't do this?? I don't knowNo DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
List the make and model numbers of your cam and vcr and tell us what ports you have on your pc. The more info that we have the more help you might get.
By the way it is sometimes difficult for the readers to understand the tone of what you are typing. Sarcasim and jokes sometimes get missed in the translation, without the JK or smilelys some people may become offended as you are seeing now. If your comments were meant to be rude, then stand back and get ready for what will come!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

Here's a link for the manual, http://media-server.amazon.com/media/mole/MANUAL000017557.pdf Which by the way I found using a search engine.
You can't do it with your camcorder.
You have three choices, all of which you would hook your VCR too. 1. A analog capture card or external capture device for your computer 2. DVDR Recorder. 3. A new digital camcorder with passthrough capability. -
My goal is to transfer a prerecorded vhs tape- home videoes etc to the digital camcorder, then I'll transfer the digital tape to the pc via the firewire.
Right now I can't get the vhs tape to the camcorder. Tried everything

Walmart has a dvd recorder for $149 I'm not after perfection, I just want to turn vhs tapes into dvd. No prerecorded movies either, just tapes I made.

Yes it will. Probably ALL of them have standard RCA Auvio / Video jacks as welll as S-video and even firewire. I have a Sony RDR-GX7 multi format ( +-1 R and RW ) recorder which I have connected to cable. Works great.

If you decide to venture into the land of dvd recorders (standalone units), you might want to check out an analysis that a poster, Lordsmurf did (or visit his site). I dont know the brand you are talking about (the $149 one), but his information and additional research will probably turn you away from the $149 unit.
From one of the posts, I gathered that you arent looking to quality, so the cheap unit actually may be the way to go. The only thing I would say is that you can get much better units (older) for around the same price or a little more. Again, look at Lordsmurf's site for this information).
That being said, I would recommend the panasonic E-30 (anything from E-20 - E50), which can be purchased from ebay or someplace like that pretty inexpensively. Alternatively, you could go to camera shops (wolf camera) for instance and have them do the conversion for you (I think the raw conversion is in the $40-$75 range) if it is only a 1 time thing.
Since the video is home movies, you wont have to worry about macrovision and stuff like that (although they do sell hardware that defeats that).
If you decide to do it yourself, be sure to either purchase a TBC (Time Base Corrector) or get a unit (like the panasonic) that has one built in. Should do wonders with the eventual video/audio sync, etc.
Hell if it is a one time job and it really is a home movie, I will do the raw conversion for you and mail it back to you. PM me if you are interested and I will give you my address. All you'll need to do is send the tape and return postage and I'll knock it out for you. -
Why not skip the whole camcorder process all together? If i understand your posts correctly your simply trying to get your old vhs tapes on to your computer?
Just get one of those video conversion boxes and it will plug your TV,VCR,Videocamers, etc directly to your computer and do all the conversions for what ever formats you wish. DIVX, Mpeg2 Mpeg1 etc .
Hope this helps

If this convertor was cheaper it would be great. I can get a good dvd recorder with firewire for $149.
$300 is to spendy
