I just installed a new OS and now everytime I try to encode avi files with Lsx my comp restarts (after about 3 min. of encoding). Are there any settings that I could have set that would be making it do this? Thx, for any help.

Nah, it's windows 98. I've never had this kind of problem before with it, so I don't know what is wrong with it.

I've had this problem in Windows ME with LSX-MPEG Plugin v1.5 for Adobe Premiere. I've lots of programs installed including Office XP, which have added also newer Windows features. But if it is 98, ME or XP or all these partial Win updates behind all this, don't know.
I sent a report about the problem to Ligos, but so far they haven't been able to give me a fix. I spent one weekend and several evenings to try to solve the problem. I used lots of variations in Windows "Selective Startup" to find out, if the cause was a specific VxD, exe or dll loaded in the Win Startup. But I could not pinpoint any specific ones to be the cause.
Nevertheless, I found at least for my PC a 99 % certain way to bring MPEG encoding with the plugin to completion (I've encoded so far even 30-35 min full size DV AVI video projects successfully to MPEG). You might wanna try this procedure as follows:
1. Choose Start, Run and type: msconfig and press OK to initiate System Configuration Utility
2. Check Selective Startup
3. Uncheck in the General tab Load static VxDs
4. Uncheck Load startup group items
5. But then (and this is is important), select the Startup tab and CHECK item *Statemgr
6. Then accept with (apply and) OK. The utility then reminds to restart the PC in order to activate the changes. Do this.
7. Do the MPEG encoding tasks with LSX-MPEG.
8. After that go back to System Configuration Utility and check in the General tab Normal Startup, press OK and boot the PC.
This procedure is a little awkward, but it has allowed me to enjoy the great MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 quality LSX-MPEG plugin provides. I'm now crazy publishing my edited home videos on SVCD and MiniDVD.

Does anyone have LSX Mpeg Encoder version 3.0 demo? Please help me with the link so I can download. Ligos.com only has version 3.5, and I don't want it. Please share if you have. Thanks so much in advance.

If you are interested in LSX-MPEG encoder, I found out recently, that a brand new (and cheap) VCD-SVDCD-MiniDVD-DVD authoring program, Ulead DVD Movie Factory 1.0, includes the LSX-MPEG engine for file conversions. It was not mentioned in Ulead's promotional material, so I found it out when I was using the program the first time. I bought it from a web store in Europe, price 55 EUR (less than 50 USD) incl. VAT.
It allows to make two levels of menus (main movie and chapter) for Video CDs and DVDs (based on program's templates), choose video and chapter stills for menus, insert an introductory video and also background stills and music for the menus.
And you can also do capture and simple video trimming in the program.
If you don't want to make video CDs you can use the program only for file conversions (AVI-MOV-MPEG-WMF). The freedom to adjust specific MPEG-properties has been "downsized" to make it more approachable to beginning or average home video editors. But based on my few tests so far it does a fair job and both VCD and SVCDs seem to comply with the standard.
You can download a demo from the Ulead web site. The download file is huge (around 80 MBs), especially, because the program is packaged with a wizard-based (sorry to say clumsy) photo editor program to make e.g. CD and jewel case covers.
I recommend to check out Ulead's web site for more details. Also CD-ROM version will be available some time later.

The Ligos encoder included with Ulead's DVDMF is the same mpeg encoder included with VideoStudio 5 and MediaStudio Pro 6.5. It does not produced mpegs near the quality of the Ligos LSX35 encoder or TMPGEnc. DVDMF supports XSVCDs and XVCDs.
