    I have a website that sells vinyl and cds, Just wondering if any1 ever paid google or yahoo to get there search results higher, and does this really work? any1 got suggestions to promote a website....thanks

    Nothing works better than content and good inbound and outbound links...BTW you can't pay either to get your search results higher, your thinking about sponsored links which are clearly defined as payed ads by both.

    Get listed in www.dmoz.com, don't sumbit your site until it's complete though. It may take months to get listed if at all. Great reading available here www.webmasterworld.com

    I use overture and it helps but I don't think it's worth it. Froogle, pricegrabber and nextag give me more hits than anything you pay for.
