I've seen it called yorteling in the past.
    That was Lord Smurf.

I've also heard them called 'Cookie Monster' vocals, in reference to bands like Slipknot. Sounds like what Bruce Lee would call 'the art of singing without singing.' Not sure how much 'art' there is to it though. I'm interested to hear APCs new CD. I was also checking out Toolband.com and their out-of-order track listing for Lateralus which is supposed to give an overall better listening experience. I haven't tried it yet myself as I forgot to number the tracks when I ripped them and now they're all in alpha order.

Na, there used to be a whole webpage talking about it.

I once saw a guy do that for a amature competition, everyone thought he was so amazing and I just kept laughing. When asked why I quickly showed them how someone who couldn't even sing (ME) could belt something out like that.

"The best "sellout" quote I've heard was from the singer for Metallica when he said many of the diehard fans called them sellouts...and he said "yep...we sell out huge concerts every night"....or something along those lines."

That was Jason Newsted (former bass player for Metallica)

"To me, the change of name indicates that Scott Stapp was the driving force behind Creed in the beginning. Almost like how Axl Rose is STILL using Guns n Roses, when he's the only member left from the glory days. It makes me wonder, who determines if the band can keep the name ?"

Attorneys. That's who decides. Actually Axl Rose forced all of the original band members to sign over their rights to the Guns and Roses name. (he threatened to quit) Those guys (Duff, Steven, Slash, and Izzy) didn't realize that they together had the power to keep Axl in line and ultimately gave in to his every whim. One of which, was to give up all rights to the name Guns and Roses.

Heck APCs 2nd wasn't as good either. I think I read somewhere they lost one of their original song writers or something. That would explain alot of it. Still a decent CD though.
I thought Tool's last album was their strongest overall.
It was definately their best sounding album (production wise).
Some of their fans didn't think it was as strong as previous efforts.

I agree APCs first album was better.
Though.....I think the production on Thirteenth Step is better.
Production is so important in having a good album.
When I listen to tunes..they must be cranked right up.
If the production is poor, it's hard to listen to loud (ex...And Justice For All).
Parabol/Parabola and Ticks and Leeches are excellent tracks in my opinion, and i like the more relaxed style of 13th step.
You're both right on the production front, it seems to be popular today to purposefully distort music, i suppose to give it a "raw" or "grungy" feel. It makes me wonder, do mixing desks today come with a "distortify album" button?
Spineshanks' "Height of Callousness" is a good example of a nicely produced yet raucous album.

If you can develop one album and make 3 times the money by making new words and changing a few chords, I call it capitalism. Go for it. If it works, then you've earned it.
