DVD2One vs DVDShrink (visual quality)

I see and know what you mean and as long as it's kept in line then these threads can indeed be very informative and interesting. I admit I was being a little picky there and hope I didn't offend you in anyway as it was more a rant on about people's manner of posting opinions

any DVD2One/DVDShrink 'suxs' or 'rocks' posts are not welcome but things like lordsmurf's make for very informative reading 8)

IC8 beat them all, by far. DVD2One is better than shrink (depending on version) or recode due to no macroblocks.

I can't comment on IC8, but that's an interesting statement on DVD2One. According to some of our other members, all other things being equal, blocking is MORE of a problem in DVD2One compared to DVDShrink.

Can you elaborate at all?

DVD2One or DVD Shrink (with DA and AEC on).

Choose one out of those two. No IC8, no Nero Recode, no DVDXCopy, no re-encoding is better. DVD2One or DVD Shrink (with DA and AEC on). That's all. One of those two.

It's not rocket science.

As one who has used both (depending on the situation)...I would use DVDShrink more, though I don`t use any one app exclusively.
That said...I now use Nero Recode, (instead of shrink) which I consider the "pumped-Up" version of DVDShrink. (same author)
No matter which app you use, it`s always "in the eye of the beholder".

Though not big user of DVD2One my experience is totally opposite in regards to macro blocks. I have to add however that the 3.1.7.5 vs of shrink has for the most part been macro block free.

Well as far as I'm concerned I'm sticking with IC8 with the latest update vs 8.3.0.4. I've tried all vs of shrink, recode, DVD Copy where some movies are good then others are full of macro blocks. I've changed media, slowed down burn speed and still get the same results, with IC8 no macroblocks so far in about 80 plus backups.

I can't resist. I have done about 1000 burns using both shrink and dvd2one. I have noticed interval improvement in both with later versions. I have to agree with Lordsmurph with the quality. It is inconsistent from movie to movie. If it doesn't look good with shrink I will try dvd2one, if not then I go to dvd2dvdr with cce basic. I do like the inteface of shrink better with the ability to preview and figure out which is the widescreen version, and also the trim function. I have however noticed some issues with freezing near end of disc with latest version of shrink on some of my standalones. This only occurs on movies actively shrunk rather than reauthored without shrinking (on <4.37 gb movies I still like to run through shrink to remove menus, fbi crap, and those damn Disney commercials) BTW I use prodisc 8x dvd-r whitetop printables and ty white top printables, now. My 2 cents for what it's worth.

You know, I've been on the encoding scene to a greater or lesser extent for several years now, and it seems that many people consider macroblock noise to be the be-all-end-all of video quality, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I just want to mention that I know at least one person that finds ringing (mosquito noise) to be more objectionable, and that would be me. It can be (and is) a reason for differing opinions.

I think the poll question should have been comparing apples with apples, by comparing DVD2one's new Selective mode vs DVDShrinks new Quality modes. I must admit that after trying DVD2one's selective mode and it being so quick and looking so good, that I got tired of waiting for DVDShrink's quality mode to finish. It was looking like DVDShrink quality mode was to take at least 3 times longer (default setting) so I never actually saw the end product.

I stick with "High" Selectivity. Everything I've backed up has been artifact free for me and on my El-Cheepo 31" TV looks as good as the original (probably because of the 31" El-Cheepo TV)

PS: I think your's is the best DVDShrink skin
