I'm basically a newbie in analog capture-editing-dvdburning.
My set up is: capturing with an ADS Tech XPress USB 2 device via USB 2 cardbus to my laptop to a dedicated external firewire hard drive. I use the capture software of the device vendor (Capwiz). It captures to mpeg 2.
I have tried a couple of trial edits, then dvd burns, 1 using Pinnacle's Studio 9 and the other using ULeads Video Studio, for editing and the dvd burns with Nero Express.
The video from both burns is excellent but my Magnavox DVD player does not pick up the audio.
Does anyone know of incompatibility problems with such a combo?

Some standalone DVD players won't play mpeg audio. If that's what your using try using PCM, better yet use AC3 if your software supports it.
Look your player up under DVD players to the left, if it's listed it should tell you what audio it supports. -
I burned another trial using Pinnacle's Studio 9. I increased the sound track volume during the edit and in setting up for the burn, I unchecked mpeg under audio settings.
This time, the Magnavox picked up the sound track.
However, many of the scenes had the audio out of synch. Strangely, in playing the DVD on my laptop, the audio was in perfect synch???
What can be the cause?Hank -
I dunno if the same DVD is in sync on a laptop and out of sync on a Standalone player I would suggest you try another player. If it's an old one it may have trouble with the disc but that's just a suggestion, I really have no idea.......never heard of that happening before.

I bought the stand alone Magnavox DVD player less than 1 year ago???

It's just a suggestion not a statement of fact. Easiest way to find out is try another player. I wouldn't even have made it accept that you sttyed it plays fine on your laptop which leads me to believe it's an isuue with your other player. Some players are funny with burned media, my friend had one that would play a -R flawlessly and +R it wouldn't touch, same exact content on each disc.

I don't know... maybe you hit the nail on the head. I have been using DVD+R's and I now remember reading that the +R's have a lower % of recognition than -R's, although not being recognized (meaning not being playable) and being playable with faults may be two totally separate issues.
What are PCM and AC3? How do I know if my software supports same?Hank -
LPCM is uncompressed audio, it uses more disc space and is standard on low end authoring or editing apps but is very high in quality. AC3 is a high quality compressed audio format. MPEG is compressed audio but is not a standard format but is supported by most players. Except yours.....
If your only choice for audio is MPEG then unchecking that box will produce LPCM, there's better definitions to the left under the glossary.
