  1. The original source is fine but after i convert it with tmpgenc i view the file and the audio is too slow for the picture.

    The settings i used were

    non-interlaced
    ntsc
    2-pass vbr

    audio bitrate was 384.

    Any ideas? thanks.

edit: now when i try to load the original video in virtualdub i get an error:

MPEG: anachronistic or discontinuous timestamp found in audo stream 0 at byte position 6869, from 0 to 69963 this may indicate an improper join.

Any ideas how to fix this?

what kind of source? divx, xvid, mpg?
did you try convert the audio to wav, tmpgenc can't handle mp3 vbr audio and ac3 audio that well
    www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc#problems

and this is CONVERTING so I'm moving you.

  3. I tried all formats, divx, mpg and it still dont work. I ripped the wav from it and tried to add it seperate with tmpenc but i get the picture without sound when it is done then. I gave up on that one and got a different filetype of the video. Now when i load the video in virtualdub i get an error saying it has an improper VBR audio encoding in the source avi. I dont even want to try and burn this one on a dvd when it says this because im guessing the audio will go out of sync.

    Any ideas?

Are you trying to create a NTSC DVD?

  5. Yes NTSC. I found my problem with the improper vbr using the search button. I ripped the wav with no compression. Wav settings are 44100hz, 16-bit and the channel is stereo. My other question is do i have to remove the audio from too? As in when i go into tmpgenc and put the wav file seperate from my avi file can my avi file have audio? Also for the settings should i use interlanced or non-interlaced? Also 2-pass or constant bitrate?

    Thanks!

  6. Too much thinking involved

Try DVD2SVCD instead. It does all the pre-processing needed to create VCD, SVCD, or DVD. It can use TMPGEnc or CCE to encode the final product.

    Check the guides under conversion.

Dont i need to encode the .wav file seperate because i get an improper vbr? Im so used to tmpgenc now, is there anyway i can use tmpgenc?

  8. DVD2SVCD will take care of everything from ripping the .VOB files, demuxing the audio and video, re-muxing them back into a MPEG, etc.

I've used to create SVCDs from a DVD source and a DVD from an AVI.
You use DVD2SVCD's drop down menus to select settings for encoding, conversion, etc. Walk away and some hours later, you'll have the finished product. The quality of the SVCDs are impeccable. No BS

Like Ron Popeil says ... You set it and forget it!

  9. I followed the guide on dvd2svcd but when i click go it gives me an error saying file not open. I tried to seperate the wav from the video in tmpgenc but the sound was off by about 1 second.

  10. dagz,

Can you post the DVD2SVCD log? I need to see at what step this "file not open" msg is being generated.

    1. Is C:\Documents and Settings\dagz\Desktop\party.avi the real AVI file or a shortcut to the file?
    2. Are you running a second program that accesses the AVI file while DVD2SVCD is also running?
    3. The AVI file may have been "locked" and not "released" by a rogue program. Shut down and restart your PC and restart DVD2SVCD.

That's all I can think of now. Let me know what happens.

I'm sometimes getting this error, which is followed by the avi file being corrupted (unplayable and showing a duration of several hundreds (400 to 700) minutes in Bsplayer and WMP

Didnt find any cause yet. Only thing i can think of since it started happening is me getting a homepage jacker virus that got taken care of, or installing SP2....

  14. I don't know if i've missed it but nobody has mentioned the frame rate of the avi and if he's trying to convert say pal to ntsc.

also, what you're trying to convert the avi to.
if you're converting to vcd, the audio sample rate needs to be 44100 and 48000 for dvd.

so make sure you're encoding using the proper frame rate and also make sure you're using the correct sample rate for the audio.
