  1. I have a dvd that I recorded from television using a standalone dvd recorder. The standalone recorder created a separate title for each recording that I made on that disc, and now I have a disc with 15 titles (with chapters every 5 minutes).

I want to combine the 15 titles into 1 title. What is the best/easiest way to do this, and will I still have my chapter markers intact?

I tried to use the "join" feature in DVD2Onex but it seems that it will only join 2 titles, not 15 (maybe I'm doing something wrong?)

A detailed answer would be very much appreciated

    THANKS!

  2. I'm not a mac video expert by any means, but couldn't you just rip the dvd using 0sex?

    1) First click 'Ti' to select the title you want to rip.

The first menu of importance is the Titles menu. Here you can select between the different sections of the DVD to copy to your hard drive. While this particular DVD has 10 titles, the first one is the one to extract, as you can see by the relatively long length. This is usually the best way to tell what title to extract.
    2) Then click 'Ch' to select the chapters you want to rip from the title (all are selected by default, which is probly what you want)

Secondly, the Chapters menu. Usually you can leave this alone, with all of the chapters selected.
    3) Click 'Aud' to select an Audio track (If there are multiple audio tracks I usually just select the first one)

    4) Select 'Fmt' to choose how you want to save the file. If you choose 'Elem. Streams' it will output the video to .m2v and the audio to .ac3. You can then burn them to DVD using sizzle or dvdsp (after converting the .ac3 audio, of course)

This setting tells 0SEx to how to save the extracted files. Program Streams will output a VOB file, while Elementary Streams will split the file from the DVD into its component parts. You will end up with a bunch of .mpv and .ac3 files, plus .spc files. MPV is the extension for the video part of the movie, and AC3 is the audio.
    5) Click 'Seg' and choose 'Title' - this will rip all the chapters from the selected title into a single file.

This setting tells 0SEx how to break the movie up. The two most important are "Title" and "Chapter." Title will merge the files to one that is the duration of the movie. Chapter will separate it into logical units. I usually will extract as a single title, as it is simpler to process just one file.
Do this for each title, I'm assuming there are 15 unique titles for the 15 different TV shows on the disc with 5 chapters for each title.

(Disclaimer - The above images and quotes are from this 0sex tutorial - check it out: http://shep.thefridgeowl.com/tutorial/files/0SEx.html )

  3. I think you misunderstood the question.

I want to COMBINE all the titles into one.

  4. if you rip to Elementary streams, can't you then burn the multiple .m2v files onto a DVD, thus creating a single title? or is that not possible?

  5. DVD2OneX will indeed join more than two titles. I'm not sure what the limit is, but it is definitely more than two.

What happens that makes you think it's stopping at two? You should be able to select the JOIN mode, and in the fly-out menu that appears click on the plus sign to add titles to your list. With each new spot you'll need to assign it the correct title from the main list of titles on your disc.

    Try it again!

I'll have to double check when I get home from work, but I thought DVD2OneX could join multiple titles, just keep hitting the plus button. This will make chapters out of them, all as part of the same title.

Put all the mpegs into one folder and use Toast 6 Titanium Video>Advanced and check Create Dvd Menu. The name of the folder will be the name of the disc. I made a backup of a Salsa vcd that was made of mostly 5-10 minute clips. Since it was Indeo, I had to copy it to the desktop of a pc first, rename the dat files *.mpg and transfer it to my eMac. Toast took the 12 mpg's and made a preview pic of each that allowed me to navigate to each clip. Only VLC could play the original vcd(and in a minimized window only) because of the Indeo codecs used, but now I have a regular dvd backup that plays anywhere.

    Extractor will do it.

    Not DVDextractor, but extractor.

Rip all the titles to vobs then use extractor to combine them to make 1 giant vob.
