  1. just wondering as I can't find an answer elsewhere on the forum if it's possible to somehow do something with the audio from a divx/xvid file so that the sound is 5.1 or near to when converted to a dvd?

if the divx has ac3(5.1) sound then just extract the ac3 using virtualdubmod and then use an authoring program that can accept ac3 audio like dvdlab. thats how I handle it. if the original divx doesnt have 5.1 I dont mess w/ it trying to create it, but Im sure somebody will chime in who does.

  3. If you are not converting the video format then it is very easy. Just demux the audio using VirtualDub. If you are changing the framerate of the video then that is a different story.

Make sure you run ac3fix on the extracted ac3 file, Vdub likes to put useless header info in the ac3 stream which makes it non-compliant.
