We need to lay down with the Star Wars threads. But that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary and, in your case Yoda, I know it will vary

Now that I have my dvd set I won't be needing to start any new threads anytime soon. Sufficient the existing threads will be.

Count me as another who would like the originals released on DVD. Those are the ones we all watched in the movie theares when it was a big deal. I was seven when ANH came out. That was the one that hooked me and millions of others. I've got everything on VHS, VCD, LD and LD transfers already, but I still would like the original version preserved on DVD for my collection. The other versions are cool, but in reality they're just inaccurate copies to a purist.

Yep I started with the ep3 preview and the trailers. I haven't gotten to the 2 1/2 hour documentary yet, that should be very good.

I will start on Ep5 and Ep6 this weekend then start on the audio commentary sometime next week. This has been long overdue.

    Hello,

Does it describe rotoscoping in any detail??? I've always heard about it but never had a step by step documentary on it.

Well you definitely got a point there, but to make up an excuse for what does appear to be a mistake...maybe they just had to travel further to get to Alderaan? I mean when escaping the Death Star they basically just wanted to be anywhere but there. They hit hyperspace til they are safe then slow down and relax. Whereas with Alderaan you got the sense that it was a very long trip, which was why they needed such a fast ship.

    Hello,

    Nice rationale!

    Actually I've got two theories:

1 - budget saver - don't spend on graphics people won't know should be there

2 - editing glitch - movies all the time get rearranged and certain plot points might be slightly out of focus. (they might have moved the vader explanation of them being in hyperspace after looking at the movie - it could have even been added after regular production to clear up plot points. Which in this case added to a sfx glitch)

EDIT - 3 - It could be they were stopped getting ready to rejump to try to throw off pursuers not knowing they were being tracked anyway. You know - jump out from the death star to an empty space then jump to the right destination.

But you could be right about the relax part - although they shouldn't because they are being tracked but they don't know that so there goes that idea!

    Not that I remember.

It had to do more with his financial struggles and time hurdles to get the films made.

    Hello,

No but I found an odd glitch. It's on the bonus disc during the 2/1/2 hour documentary. During the layer break the audio goes out of synch for about 5 seconds (on the ORIGINAL DISC!!). It quickly goes back in sync but that's the first time I've ever seen that happen on a pro disc. My dvd player is the sony dvps360. I haven't tested it on my other players or the pc yet to repeat it but that just seemed odd. Other than that I LOVE my set

    Hello,

Anyone watch empire yet??? PM me of what you think about the BIG change. No need to spoiler this one. I knew about part of the change but not the WHOLE change. WOW.

Can't wait to finish ROTJ. I got about half way through last night than finally had to go to sleep. I'm wondering how they pull off the ending changes. Should be interesting.

I already had watched the 2 1/2 hour documentary before I started ROTJ. I conked out.

    Hello,

Gitreel - Three Days?????? You're doing school work and that's what is keeping you away from it right???????

D_Knife - Yes I liked the documentary a lot. I can't wait to get to the audio commentary on the movies. If it's anywhere as detailed as the prequel dvd's it should be fascinating. Though I would have loved more technical explanations in the doc. It was a little bit generic for me. Though I still learned more tidbits of Star Wars I didn't know.

    Hello,

A slight sidetrack here. Anybody dislike the case???? I mean it looks great but I really don't like the little flapper top that is supposed to slide under the actual box (you know the part that holds the dvds has the flapper that folds down when you insert it into the case).

To me it seems incomplete. I'd wish they would have left that off so it would be a nice neat fit.

    ----------------------------

Also, anyone here have the Indy box set??? I think I got jipped with cheap glue. Ever since last january when I got mine the sides have been peeling off. The box itself is sturdy but the paper is slowly tearing off like the glue wasn't strong enough. It seems to me they could have constructed it better.

It still sucks how the "drawing the light sabers" seems to still cause a pause in the scene. Very ugly.

The lightsaber is still WHITE in the practice sequence. I looked at that first. I'll recheck.

That Han/Jabba ANH scene was jerky and just bad motion editing in SE. It's still not great. Keyframe people!

I'm fine with everything but the Hayden Christiansen replacement. That was just stupid.

The DVD "box" was a piece of shit. Cheap, flimsy, junk. Want to see a GOOD box? Pick up some anime like SLAYERS or TRIGUN. Now THAT'S a box!!

  24. Some changes come from trying to do what was originally wanted - the Jabba scene, general cleanup & color fixing, etc. But some of them are obviously due to the changing viewpoint of an older man with children. Han shooting in defense of a real gunshot instead of preemptively killing a bounty hunter who he KNEW was gonna shoot him but didn't get the chance - that's one. I know, no big deal, but it DOES change the flavor of the character a little, and he could have done it that way in the first place - IF he wanted to. He didn't, then; but now he's mellowed with age.

The only other disappointment for me is that they still left the garbage mattes arounf the tie fighters in the "Falcon's escape" battle.

But all told, I like this version. I have the bootleg DVD transfer of the SE laserdisc (that I got when the rumor was a 2007 release) and I'll probably never see it again...

The emperor was originally a woman. The woman was replaced by Ian Mcdermid who plays the emperor in the other movies.

I also noticed that they put the translation script inside the viewing area. If you look at the screen shots, it's outside. However, I do know they did that because of the new digital widescreens. The wording would get cropped out or it would have to be viewed full screen though the movie would be seen in the panoramic view. To watch them wide screen would stretch everything horizontally even further.

    Hello,

I think I know what you mean. The quotes are on the black border bottom on a 4:3 tv but inside the picture on the pc.

The subs are just designated W and L, or maybe there are multiple sub streams, one for W and one for L. This is how it is on most DVDs these days. When viewed in 4:3 the subs appear in the letterboxing and when viewed in 16:9 the subs appear in the picture for obvious reasons; depending on the tv there may be little or no letterboxing for that movie.

This isn't so much a change, just a result of the anamorphic encoding process. If the picture adapts to the tv, then the subs have to also.
