That's when you had to tune into The Midnight Special, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert or Rock World to see video clips (usually sandwitched between live performances). Only on weekends though.
I still remember the very early days of MTV - they actually played music videos back then and played them all day and night.
Adam and The Ants were probably the first I'd seen on there - they were always playing Ant Music
Loved Madness - they had the most videos on MTV.
The Ramones, Police and Bow Wow Wow also had a variety of videos and were on there a lot too.
I had a VCR since very eary 1979, so I have a good bit of eary MTV preserved on VHS 8) (no, I didn't erase stuff after I watched it - so sue me :P )
One of the best things about TV in the '80s, is that there weren't TV logos stamped all over the screen!
Only local stations would put a logo on the screen for a few seconds during broadcasts.
USA Network and Lifetime would show movies and shows with nudity without any censoring.
If you had a cable-ready TV in early '80s, you could access any pay channel for free 8)
They didn't scramble TV signals in those days.
Kids were all heavily into Arcade games and BMX bike racing.
The '80s that most people refer to as The '80s really didn't start til 'bout mid '80s.
Cool time period, that I was in my teens then

I gotta kick out that scene they were in, in Pee Wee's Big Adventure -
Actually if you listen to the disc now the music isn't all that bad, you just need to skip over "stay hungry" and "We're not going to take it". Those two songs can stay in the 80's.

Started August 1st 1981 - first video they aired was The Buggles' Video Killed The Radio Star (which was from 1979)
2nd video was Pat Benatar's cover of The Rascals' You Better Run.
Martha Quinn (The Mighty Quinn) - Martha Raye would've dated MTV day to the '30s or so
Still have an autographed photo and letter from her from way back 8)
Nina Blackwood - at the time was an aspiring actress ex-nudie model (Playboy and some more trashier type mags - in some really raunchy poses too)
Funny that many of the female singers from the early '80s came from previous jobs as Penthouse Pets and Hustler centerfolds
Terri Nunn of Berlin, Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons, Wendy O. Williams (made a porn flick), etc.
Even Debbie Harry (of Blondie) did some full frontal nude shots early on.
Seems like everyone was oversexed back then -

around 84-85 Northcat's life changed....as was already stated in earlier conversations.
I discovered sex, alcohol and violence.
I had to buy my own car, so through diplomatic conversation I talked my parents into letting me buy the car I wanted. I bought a 1970 Chevy Nova, with a 400 small block, heads milled, domed pistons, big cam, 750 Carter AFB 4 barrel, put a shift kit in the automatic tranny, and a stall converter. Motor had so much torque that I broke 5 driver side motor mounts and finally had to go with solid mounts. Pulled low 12's in the 1/4 and loved to bury it on the 120 speedometer. Car was shit, git and gone. I could bring the front tires off the ground but I had to bounce it to get them up.
Loved that carbut it only got 10 miles to the gallon and that was if I stayed out of it. I took out the back seat and built a frame and had a bed type of deal set up back there and a bracket welded in behind the console to hold the cooler. My priorities at that time were sex, football and fun. Not necessarily in that order...
wow, that's odd, here I am 20 years later and my priorities haven't changed
Ah yes, the good ol' days when if you had a problem with someone, you could fight about it..and it was over. You didn't have to worry about the guy you beat up showing up 4 days later with a bunch of friends and a gun to get even.
By the way boys, you should see the ******* english teacher today...goddamn...I'm glad I don't see her very often during the day or I might have to take some time and go punch the clown for a bit.... holy cow. Short jean skirt, slit in the front, sandals that lace up like pornstar shoes...you know what I mean, leather straps that wrap around her calves and tie, a little sleeveless blouse, cut low and isn't long enough to tuck in...5'7" 128 lbs, her long black hair and dark skin....
...um...ut-oh......shit.......I'll be back in a few minutes........

I was just coming of age in the 80's
I watched alot of cartoons and TV shows. I'm full of totally useless information.
I remember -
Voltron at 3pm
Transformers at 3:30
GI Joe at 4pm
and Robotech at 4:30
That was during the week.
Friday Nights were spent watching -
Dallas, before it got stupid
Dukes of Hazard until...
Knight Rider came out
I didn't even know Knight Rider was on DVD, but while I was picking up some cheap patch cables at Tar'get I saw them. Hmm something else to buy....
Saturday Moring would be a crap shoot especially at this time of year. I wasn't into College Football like I am now and dreaded my cartoons being prememted by ABC's coverage of the Big 10 or Pac 10.
But if that didn't happen...
Turbo Teen
Mighty Orbots (tracking down those videos as well)
Let's see what else..
Im sure I wasn't the only one with -
Rubix Cube
Gerry Curl
Members Only Jacket
London Fog Windbreaker
A Redine, Hutch, Mongoose, Haro or Diamond Back BMX dirt bike. I had a Diamond Back and Redline.
Also R/C got really big towards the end of the 80's. Im still into it. Still loyal to Tamiya also.
I'm sure I could remember more, but I'll quit while I'm ahead.Project Digital: Eliminate All Physical Media is finally underway! -

ZOOM was cool, but it got tiring after a while. I liked electric company because it had Spider-Man episodes and a few other cool parts.

I still have a couple sets. They're awesome. They've been sitting in storage for a long time. They didn't break up if you don't try and smack them so fast and hard.

I was a kid, my memories are faint... but:
C= ruled
(I dont remember first C16, but I slightly remember C64 and C128 my bro had - and his late at night Basic programming attempts LOL)
Girls sucked
(or I had no interest in their body parts yet LOL)
Girl's fashion & hairdos sucked
Most of american sweet'n'love rock music sucked
Metallica, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden ruled
Wood-imitation 'panels' on the cars ruled
(I know, many of you will disagree)
Everybody still spoke English-English, or at least they tried to speak as proper as they could - not the Apu style funny noises that nowaday come from the mouths of new immigrants
Reagan announcing Star Wars
(I dont remember that, but it was back then)
-
In the 80's my favorite band was Van Halen and my favorite tv shows were A-Team,Magnum P.I.,Miami Vice and Night Court.
Damn Capmaster I thought I was old. :P -
Metallica, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden ruled
